theme fridays: upper east side/old money

Photobucket

So it's back to theme fridays! Last weeks installment was non existant, since I did not work last friday, but the theme was "all day deep comfort".. which I wouldn't really know what to wear for anyways. I have strong feelings about leaving the house in pajamas and other such lounge wear, so I don't really feel like I missed out on that one. However, this week our theme is "upper east side/old money" which I had a bit of fun with. Ya know, rich older ladies with pearls and Chanel and little matching skirt suits.. pink hair, purple hair and nicknames like Muffy, Birdy and Tweedy. I'm trying to decide what I want my rich old broad name to be today.. I'm thinking Muffy..

So for this outfit I started with the plaid skirt, which I got from Donnaland warehouse back in November, this sweet little jacket is from there too. One of my favorite pieces that is now just finally making it out of my closet! It's a little hard to tell, but it's neon green under the collar! Paired with a little sea foam green blouse I thrifted a while back. This really pretty pearl necklace collar thing I got at this open air flea in like chelsea on maybe 25th street? I forget, but it's super cool, I scored some good things that day. The earrings I'v had for a while, I have quite the earring collection actually, as I used to wear them all the time, but not so much anymore. And the shoes I got on etsy. And lets not forget these pretty little gloves! my friend Sam from western MA sent me a little package this week with some cool paper items and some prints of her collages, as well as these pretty gloves and a "New York Places & Pleasures" book written in 1957 I believe it was. What a gal! Check out her etsy Papper Bunnies Burrow for some truly amazing collage work!

black and bows

Photobucket

I got batteries for my camera! And a new tripod! yay! Anyway.. I'm off from work today, had to run a few errands, currently doing some laundry.. ya know, glamorous stuff. Going to dinner at Red Bamboo later with my boy when he gets off work, and it's pretty nice out, all in all a good day. Last night was amazing, I went to see First Aid Kit with Liz and Kallie and it was just mind blowing! Those Swedish sisters can harmonize like no other, so so amazing. And with that long hair and the head banging they do, I'm in love. And when they played Ghost Town it was an unplugged version where they asked everyone to be as quite as they could so they could stand together without a microphone and sing.. I have never in my life heard Webster Hall go completely silent like that. Usually there are always losers at the back bar making a ruckus of some kind. It was just amazing! Some damn good bands coming around to NYC this spring/summer. Some shows I already have tickets for to come.. Sleepy Sun, Death Cab for Cutie and Beach House!!! And I hope a whole lot more!

navy blue and red

Photobucket

I'm really peeved with myself for not going out and getting new batteries yesterday! I'm also peeved at these stupid rechargeable batteries that we have had for a while that apparently can no longer hold a charge for longer than one photo. Ugh, technology! So shitty photos again, but I'm trying to stay regular here (heh) so any means to get a blog post up in time, ya know?

So yesterday I cleaned out my bucket at work again, so this means more new clothes! Keep in mind, I have sold in about 4 big bags of clothes since I'v been there too... so we aren;t swimming in clothes over there.. but I do have a lot! This whole outfit except for the tights and shoes is from Beacon's. The only note worthy bit about it is this Steven Alan blazer, I don't think I even have any blazers at the moment, and I'v always wanted something by him! It's a dark navy blue and the perfect fit, I wore it around work all day yesterday before I bought it to see how I really felt about it, and also because I was freezing cold at work yesterday in all those man mad materials I was wearing.

My shoes I got from Donnaland while working for her back in september.. speaking of which it is almost that time again, Brimfield season!!! And this go around I'm going to try my best to be up there all week long, from set up to tear down.. it will be interesting having to use some restraint, since this time I am no longer selling vintage on the side, so everything I take from her will be for me... Looks like I'll have to get paid in some actual paper money this time, because I probably shouldn't get paid a weeks worth of work in vintage just for myself #vintagegirlproblems

bojeangles

Photobucket

So the batteries died on my camera again today, they also did on saturday thats why there is no photos of my outfit from that day. Although I have some instagram photos I can use, cause I gotta show you these awesome pants I wore that day. So today it's iphone photos again. I got these sweet disco pants from my friend Ali a while back, and today will be my first time wearing them out. These photos don't realyl do them justice.. think the american apparel ones but without such a slim leg at the bottom, and better because of this Bojeangles "SKIN-EASE" tag. The top I got from the Williamsburg Beacon's a while back, and these sweet shoes I got from my store recently, they are from Topshop originally. I have been looking for a good oxford shoe for a while, and figured I would see the perfect pair come into work eventually. I had two different pairs in my bucket for a bit.. but there was something about both that didn't quite grab me. And then these came in and I knew I found the ones!

some change

Photobucket

Let me just start by saying today is going to be like 80 degrees you guys. And so is tomorrow, and I'm off work tomorrow and plan to be topless sunbathing on my friend Anna's rooftop with another babe Leah. It's going to be grand! But we are still on today, and today I work, and this is what I'm wearing to work. I got this beautiful blue dress at an estate sale sometime last summer. They wanted like $25 for it (Long Island estate sales are rip offs..) but it was quite discolored and had a small rip in the back bodice (which has now grown to a bigger rip, despite all the mending i'v done) and so I think I got it for like $10. I took it home and oxy cleaned it and it's now one of my favorite dresses. It just really speaks sounds of summer to me. The cute little sweater is from Beacon's and so are these Salvatore Ferragamo sandals!! Another great shoe score, I don't have any Ferragamos, and my sandal collection is kinda non existant at the moment, so they are perfect.

As you can see I have changed settings here for my photos today! Yesterday, what started out as me just trying to go through some of my clothes for stuff to sell to my job, (since you all know I am getting way too many new things) ended in me totally cleaning and rearranging and redecorating our bedroom. We have been living here since August, but our bedroom has remained a bit of a sore spot on our apartment, never really totally clean, not nearly as decorated as the rest of the place. So I made a change about that yesterday, and now I only want to hang out in our bedroom. My poor boyfriend.. I have so many things.. and all so girly! I have shoes lining the wall (which he hates) and hats up on the wall.. it's a girly paradise in here!

flower power

Photobucket

So yesterday was maybe the best shoe luck day of my life! Two things I am always on the look out for, chunky black platforms.. be it 60s, 70s or 90s style.. whatever, I want it. Also, Swedish Hasbeen's, always been a fan, always been to broke to afford a new pair of my own (and dear lord, that new summer campaign of theres is not making anything easier!) and so I keep my eyes peeled when thrifting and such. WELL yesterday I come into work, and after not being there for a day I make sure to take a look around at the stuff that came in on the day I was gone. We get a lot of new things every day, gotta keep up on it! Sitting on top of the same shelf was these fucking awesome platform shoes, and right next to them a pair of black Swedish Hasbeen's BOTH IN MY SIZE! I let out an audible gasp, it was like a dream come true. And for just a cool $11 (after discount) I am now the proud owner of both these babies. I can die happy.

So the shoes totally inspired this outfit, going for kind of a Parker Posey in Party Girl, groove is in the heart Deee- Lite kinda thing. The black lace top was thrifted years ago, the 90s yellow plaid Gap skirt was also thrifted, one of my favorites. And I got these socks from Beacon's on like my first day. I kept seeing them every time I went in to shop as a customer, and after I got the job there was only like two pairs left, so I made my move.

sheer and floral

Photobucket

Today is going to be another beautiful day! I can not believe this weather we have has this year. We literally had no winter! We got snow like 3 times tops, and each time was just a dusting pretty much. I don't think I wore gloves once this season, and went bare legged more times than I can count. I am ready to start going to the beach, laying out and taking in the long lazy day with my buds. Ahh, I can feel it already!!

Today I am wearing some more Beacon's finds, this blouse and skirt. The top is vintage I think.. has no tag I know of, I really like the collar of it and the billowy sleeves. The mini skirt is from Opening Ceremony which I was pretty psyched to come across. I don't have anything from there, and probably wouldn't due to the price tag. I am just waiting for a Chloe Sevingy for OC item to pop up one of these days.. I have my fingers crossed and my eyes peeled!! These white knee socks I totally forgot I even had until like a day ago, I think I got them at AA, and plan to see them a lot more often!

bright and bold

Photobucket

Another new dress from Beacon's, this one is new too.. I forget the brand, but once again here I am going for the most vintage looking new things! I really like the shape of this dress and the way the bodice fits nice and snug and the skirt is really soft and flowing. I am 100% a bright colors kind of person, and I already own dresses in many colors. But I think I wan to build up my bold prints a bit more, and this is a step in the right direction I think.
