babydoll

Photobucket

Feeling pretty 90s inspired today I suppose. Broke out this little babydol dress, except it really is a little girls dress from the 40s that I got from my good friend Courtney. Something from her own personal collection that I really coveted, then I come to find at the May Brimfield that she was going to sell it. I snatched it up before anyone else had the chance to. It's quite short on me, but a pair of shorts underneath ease my worries about walking up subway steps. More knee socks as you can see, I really am dreading having to wear full on tights, but these days there is still a touch of humidity in the air, so knee socks work just fine. I picked up this shrunken Gap sweater at work last week, just kind of realized I don't have to many sweaters or cardigans to throw over things now that there is a chill in the air, so I am working on building up that collection.

gussied up

Photobucket

You know when you move and there are things you know you packed away somewhere but then just can't seem to find, even after unpacking everything? Well I do.. there are still a few things I can't quite seem to place.. but I know they are somewhere. Well this Nars Heat Wave lipstick was one of them, but I found it last night! In fact most of my lipsticks are kind of scattered about in different places at the moment, but this is hands down my favorite. So I was kind of inspired by this to get all gussied up in one of my favorite vintage dresses today, rag curls and all. Also it is no longer humid out so I can rag my hair and not be sad when it's flat by the time I get to the subway.

The Cloisters

Photobucket

Today I had a little lady date with Liz going to Fort Tryon park and The Cloisters all the way up north on Manhattan in Washington Heights. The park is this AMAZING place located up at 190th street and is a beautiful sight to see, it's hard to even believe you are still in Manhattan when you are there. Amazing views of the Hudson and NJ across the way, the park is on an old fault line and is basically a huge stone hill surrounded by city. I only snapped one photo which you can see down below, but the place is filled with walkways and amazing stone work, and houses The Cloisters which is a branch of the MET devoted to Medieval art.

The weather was amazing, slightly chilly with the first real scent of fall in the air. I have been working on my fall outfits, but I fear I still need to bundle up a bit more! This cute floral vintage sweater just wasn't cutting it as soon as the sun started to set, but I felt it was a good transition piece none the less. Had to wear my suede skirt from a few days ago again, and remember when I was wearing bows around my neck all the time back in the spring? Well expect to see a lot of that again now that I'm sure I'll be buttoning up to stay warm more often!

Edwardian

Photobucket

Taking a little break from the 60s school girl knee sock vibes I'v had going on these last few weeks, I was inspired by an amazing movie you all should watch.. and don't you worry, it's on netflix instant ;) Last night I went to hang out at The Metz's, who are finally both back in town after much traveling over the summer. We watched episodes of paranormal witness and then Hannah's favorite movie Willow all while drinking Tecates with hot sauce and lime juice (the only way one of those suckers should be had) and then ended the night with the movie I'm talking about, House of Pleasures. It is a beautiful and sad film about the ladies of a parisian brothel at the turn of the 20th century. My dear lord, the costumes.. so amazing! I am always a sucker for period pieces, but when it is really done right it takes my breath away. So much beautiful lingerie! I highly recommend you all watch it! And so today I broke out my Edwardian whites that I got from Donnaland at the May Brimfield, one of my most treasured items of clothing.

Modcloth blogger street style

Durring fashion week Erin asked me and a bunch of my blogging gal pals to be interviewed for a street style video for Modcloth, and I was happy to oblige. Little did I know I would be asked questions like what my style animal was, and my signature dance move.. and then asked to preform it! She came to join us at our blogger picnic and we all had a good laugh with it. And here is the finished product! It's super cute and really shows the personalities of the girls I have made into some of my best friends. Check it out!

paisley and suede

Photobucket

Just put this little outfit together at work yesterday. This super amazing dream skirt came in and I snatched it up immediately!! I am a sucker for mini skirts, especially that of the suede persuasion. This top I also bought in yesterday durring a buy, it's J Crew and was brand new with tags on.. cant you believe this silk blouse bought new costs $118!!??! I don't even understand how that is possible, it's a lovely blouse.. but damn that is a good chunk of money! I was won over by the sweet paisley print and the shape of the sleeves with the cuff. Very vintage looking while not being at all. And of course more knee highs again. I'm basically just going to try and see how much of my wardrobe I can pair with knee socks this fall, which by the way, it now officially is!

yellow floral

Photobucket

I got this adorable vintage jacket at work durring the full heat of summer. It has been hanging in my closet, tags still on, since then just waiting for that chill to come into the air. And I tell you it is finally here. Last night I was out at the Bushwich Country Club (a dive bar around the corner from me.. fitting name, huh?) for a friends birthday, we were hanging out in the backyard all night, and even with my knee highs and sweater I was cold man! So I woke up this morning knowing that I could finally take this baby out for a test run. I know it will get sufficiently warm durring the day with the sun and all, but I will be at work and by the time I get out I will be happy I chose to bring this jacket along. I also now see that I don't have nearly enough crazy color/patterned mini dresses to compliment this dress, I will have to work on that. There is nothing I love more than print mixing, and especially with bright bold colors for the colder weather when everyone else starts to just wear black.

fall uniform

Photobucket

So this is like my fall uniform it's turning out. Mini skirt, knee socks, crop top and a cardigan. I'm cool with that. I just got this skirt from work a few weeks back, it's old french connection.. still amazed by how much I like their stuff sometimes. French connection usually makes me think of those fcuk shirts that used to be so popular, and all the douche bags I went to high school with who wore them. But I am always glad to be pleasantly surprised by brands like that. I am not one to ever really care about a brand name, or showing it or caring what people think of me because I wear it. But on that same note I like to remain open minded about them and to not turn something down because it is a brand I may not normally like or support. For me it is about the finished product, the outfit you put together with whatever you have at hand that really matters. Be it thrift, vintage or even Target or some mall brand, what you do with it to express yourself is really what should be the thing that stands out.

Durt Purz

So A few months back I was asked by some friends of mine to play a part in this video project they were working on. The idea was for a sort of spoof music video that had basically been this idea they had for like the past 5 years and were just now finally putting into motion. They wrote and recorded the song, got us all together out on Long Island for the filming and we made it happen! I am super proud to be a part of this, and damn proud of all my talented friends involved. Check it out and share it if you would like, it's funny as hell, and the song is pretty damn catchy if I do say so myself.

stripes

Photobucket

And now after a long week of crazy fun girly time, it's back to work! Fall is seriously around the corner here in Brooklyn, and so I am starting to channel all those fall colors and fabrics. Busting out my h&m brown corduroy skirt from forever ago, a piece of mine that for some reason I always go to get rid of thinking I don't need it anymore, then always change my mind at the last moment. And I am super excited to start wearing socks/knee highs/thigh highs again.. tights not so much.. that speaks winter to me a little too much. The long cold months where my bar legs are in hiding.. yuck! But socks, thats a horse of a different color. These ones I just picked up last night from Uniqlo, my first time ever in there actually.

Oh and have ya stolen a glance of my Ferragamo Vera flats!? I got them at work maybe like a month ago, but was holding off on wearing them because I knew they had to be broken in. Well this past week they are pretty much all I wore, so they are well on the right track to never leaving my feet. Comfy as hell, classy as shit and go with everything.. what more do you need. And completing this look a vintage striped silk blouse, this one I love because it's not too blousy and big like many of them are, it fits just right and I love the color combo of navy and light blue.
