film

Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket

Along with that one roll of film that had only the very beginnings of my west coast tour on it were some older photos. The first few are even back from my old place in Crown Heights, so probably about a year old. Then there are some photos from the end of the summer when I first moved into my new place. Just me trying to finnish the roll and capture the last gasps of summer.

patches

Got a new dress. Had the day off today so I played around in it. It's so cruddy out, but at least this dress is making me feel mighty good. Or maybe that's just the wine..

DIY hair for Drifter & The Gypsy

Photobucket

My last DIY hair tutorial went up over at Drifter and The Gypsy while I was away on tour and I nearly forgot to share it here! I show you the simple steps on how to do a side french braid, a hairstyle I use from time to time especially when my hair isn't looking quite right that day, or could use a washing! My next one should be going up next week, so be sure to stop back at her blog and check it out!

Unto The Locusts

Check out this new video by Celia Rowlson-Hall for Metal Magazine, I really admire her work with it's quirky weird ideas and interesting movements. I am actually going to be working with Celia over the next month on a music video for a band called Atlas Genius in which I will star and style myself, all in my own clothing. Super excited about it, I have never worked on something like this before and so it will be a new experience and it's really awesome I'm getting to showcase my wardrobe as well.

YSL

Photobucket

Man, getting back in the swing of things can be so hard around here, especially when you have to go up on your roof at 10 am to take photos for your blog with no coat on. That's my reason for the lack of outfit posts since I have been back in town, but I got up the courage to go up there today and do it. The weather so far is really not that bad, you have to get bundled up to go out, but it isn't chilling to the bone yet.. so I really shouldn't be complaining. But I think this not wanting to go take my photo in the cold is going to cause me to mix things up a bit around here. Maybe start posting some new and different content, change the direction of this blog a bit.. cause change is good and refreshing and there have been lots of crazy coincidences in my life recently so I'm taking it as a sign. I don't know what of.. but something about right now feels very important, so I'm not going to let this awesome static energy I'm feeling go to waste.

Lets discus my new blouse here for a minute. I got it at work yesterday, it's a vintage Yves Saint Laurent and I am in love. When I tried it on at work some of the girls said I would never wear it.. and that it didn't strike them as very me. I beg to differ, I think it is so perfect, the puffy sleeves are great and the color is that perfect shade of pink I actually like to wear.

rediscovering beauty

Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket

I really never use my Flickr anymore, I haven't uploaded any photos to it in a long long time, and I would say Tumblr has replaced it as far as a place to find beautiful inspirational images goes. But today I dove back into my Flickr favorites and I was reminded how many beautiful images are floating around on there. They all look so nice together and it was quite nice to browse through them, especially with the new layout they have going on. Here as some images that stick out to me at this moment..

fur

Photobucket

I need another coat like I need a hole in the head, but when one of our regular customers at Beacon's walked in with this the other day I could not resist. Pretty much a dream coat. The perfect burgundy color with that fur.. and it fits perfectly! It was also really convenient that it came along, cause it has gotten quite cold and I'm suddenly not so excited to go up on the roof to take these photos. I'm sure you will be seeing this guy again, and much of my coat collection as the temperature continues to drop.

Austin

Photobucket

So I am back from the west coast and settling back into cold weather and post subway suspension for two weeks in New York. It really feels like I haven't even left at all, but here I am having just been to six different cities, a lot of which I hardly pent 24 hours in. I saw a lot of beautiful places and met a lot of amazing people and took lots of photos. However I went to Walgreens today to get my two rolls of film from the trip developed.. and much to my displeasure the roll from MOST of the trip was totally blank. Nothing. So so devastated. I already had a roll of film in there from a while ago, and so all I have are a few pictures from our first night and second day in Austin at the lovely apartment of two of the bands friends Stephanie and Andrea. We were lucky to stay with some really awesome people who were so kind and had amazing homes and just so happend to all have cats. I wish I had photos from the other places, and the other cities.. but there is nothing I can really do about that now. So enjoy what was salvaged and just try to imagine the rest.

I'm delighted to be guest blogging for Emily today as she is off living the dream on the West Coast. I thought I'd share some photographs from last weekend when my other half and I decided to escape the hustle and bustle of city life for the day and jump on a train to Rockaway Beach.

Summer is well and truly gone but the beach was still thriving with surfers, gulls and day trippers.  I grew up by the seaside so always feel right at home when I feel the ocean breeze in my bob and smell the salt air. It was the perfect way to spend the day, however there was a touch of melancholy in the air as I realised this may be the last day we spend at the beach this year before the Winter chill sets in for good.

guest post: LA soundtrack by Emma Cooper

Photobucket

Hey there, this is Emma blogging on behalf of Emily. Today she is in my native Los Angeles, probably eating tacos and enjoying nice weather. It sucks, however I am beyond excited for her to experience the city I hold so near and dear to my heart. Since I'm not there to show her a good time and all my favorite spots I made a lil' welcome to LA playlist for her and for all of you here reading her blog. It's kind of a weird mix, maybe a bit obvious with all the songs having "California" in their names. Since I have been living in New York for over four years now, I don't listen to music like I used to (I also mainly listen to NPR when I drive around LA these days and that is no fun for a playlist) and it would be real weird if I went and got nostalgic for my high school days in this playlist so instead I tried to pick out some songs that embody what I think of as having a LA vibe. LA runs on a different speed than NY and if you are willing to sit back and enjoy some time stuck in traffic on the freeway with the radio up and the windows down and the sun setting into the horizon, you might just love it like I do!

Tan Camera: This Is Our Youth

Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket

And here is the fifth and last set of photos from my shoot with Tan Camera. These photos are part of a long term project Kimi is working on called "This Is Our Youth" where she uses real people, often times bloggers, and their wardrobes to style the looks. Using 35mm film and various polaroids she tries to document capturing a moment in time that is true to the subject. Keep coming back for the rest of the set from our shoot, and be sure to check out Kimi on facebook, instagram and twitter under the name @tancamera.

Tan Camera: This Is Our Youth

Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket

Here is the fourth set of photos from Tan Camera, these ones were taken up on my roof which I'm sure you all recognize. But Kimi was able to capture a whole different view point I never would have been able to get on my own.
