Dreamsuit

Photobucket

So I FINALLY got my dream denim jumpsuit at work this week! I know this is not an item of clothing that most people dream of getting, but for me, as a total 70s lover, it is a necessity.  I feel my wardrobe was never going to feel complete until I had this item! I am now just hitting a year working at Beacon's Closet (whoa!) and in all of that time quite a few jumpsuits have come in, some denim, some corduroy, all amazing. But so far they have mostly been too small, especially when it comes to the length between shoulders and crotch causing much camel toe discomfort. Either that of the fit was just way off and wonky.. I have been waiting patiently, and like with most things, when I do this the universe brings back to me the positive vibes I put out. I can now sleep sound at night knowing this hot thing is hanging in my closet keeping watch over the rest of my clothes. And get a load of that tag, can you ask for anything better!?! I THINK NOT!

Tan Camera

Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket

Here are some more photos by Kimi Selfridge from our last shoot. You can really see the wind picking up in these photos. I got this dress when I was in Austin and it is one of my favorites. The pattern and colors are so vibrant and the skirt is really full and fun to throw around. A perfect choice for such a windy day. There are still more to share so be sure to keep checkin' back for more!

Tan Camera

Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket

A few weeks back on a VERY windy day I got together with my girl Kimi to take some more photos. We shot some back in October together that came out super awesome, she uses all 35mm film and polaroids and takes lots of multiple exposures. It's also fun getting to style it with her using my own clothing. She just recently moved from my hood in Williamsburg to Bushwick where there is lots of street art and murals and graffiti which all makes really cool backdrops for the photos. Always a plus, especially when you are taking crazy cool multiple exposures like these! The first one here is totally my favorite out of this set, can't wait to see the other ones!!

Theme Fridays: Flower Power

Photobucket

Welp, it's another theme friday, and compared to last week, this was is so totally up my alley. This week the theme is Flower Power, which we had done once before when we did the themes the first go around. I told everyone to interpret that as they please, last time I took it as all floral, I wore like 5 different floral patterns, it was crazy and super cool. This time I'm going for more of a hippie vibe, but I think that's just mostly because I wanted to wear this dress today! And to compliment that I got on a daisy flower crown that I got at a costume store around halloween for like 4 bucks, and this sick ass daisy bracelete that my wonderful friend Sam gave to me. It's currently one of my favorite things, and always gets me a lot of compliments. I love how well the two match!

Theme Fridays: Club Kid

Photobucket

Remember last year kinda around when I first started working at Beacon's Closet, and every friday was Theme Friday? Where we wrote out different themes and drew them out of a hat and each week we had to dress in the theme? Well it sort of faded and no one was really doing it anymore, but I have decided to reinstate it! However, this is my first go at it again.. and I have to say I don't think I pulled it off too well. This weeks theme is Club Kid... which in this case I just looked at images of Grimes on tumbr to try and get inspiration. First I wanted to go all 90s club kid style.. but it was quite outrageous back then and I couldn't really come up with anything. I didn't do too well here either, I have some out there stuff, but nothing that totally spoke to this style. But I am wearing pink eye shadow and glitter and put some green in my hair, so it's a start, no?

Atlas Genius- Trojans

Trojans- Atlas Genius from celia rowlson-hall on Vimeo.

Back in December I worked on a music video Directed by Celia Rowlson Hall for a band called Atlas Genius which I styled and stared in as well! Although I didn't do too much real acting, it was my first time really being in front of a camera that wasn't just taking photos, and it was a load of fun! I used all my own clothing to style myself, and took advantage of my job and styled my on screen ex-boyfriend with duds from Beacon's Closet. So please check it out! I am quite proud, and it was so lovely to work with Celia, she's a super talented lady with great vision and so easy to work with.

Amanda Henderson

Photobucket

Friday night brought not ony our first blizzard of the season, but the wonderful success of my friend Amanda's knitwear presentation. This was her first time presenting her handmade knitwear to the public, some of which she has been working on for a few years. Amanda is crazy talented on so many levels, playing with needle felting and hand beading techniques to many truly one of a kind pieces. Even her illustrations are awe inspiring, she had a whole bunch of original art work hanging on the wall so you could really get a look at all the work and detail that went into this collection. Please excuse my crappy iphone photos as I forgot my camera at home, but I am so wildly proud of this girl!

Samantha Pleet FW13

Photobucket

Last week some buds and I started NYFW out right by stopping by our friend Samantha Pleet's studio in the garment district. It was my first time getting to visit her new digs up on the 16th floor of a pretty building with a wonderful view! It's a cozy little space where she greeted us with cookies and tea, and maybe the best wardrobe ever to play dress up in! Emma and I for the most part were the ones real giddy about getting to try on all of Sam's beautiful creations. It's fun getting to mix and match some of the separates in ways that she hadn't thought of yet, that has to be a pretty good feeling as the designer to know that someone can come at your collection with a fresh set of eyes and se many possibilities. Sam's use of silks and her own prints make these pieces feel extremely special. And one thing I can say is that the girl knows fit! Each piece fit perfectly, and in the most flattering ways too! She's got some great blouses this season with a great ruffled cuff, you all know I was dying over it!
