Meeting friends
Yesterday I had the great pleasure of meeting Sofia Ajram and her boyfriend David Alexander for the first time here on Long Island! Ali introduced me to Sofia via the internet and Flickr sometime I think in late 2009, she is a beautiful photographer living in Montreal, Canada and it's been a dream to meet her for some time now. Her and David came down to stay in NYC for the whole week and took the train out here yesterday to spend the night at Ali's place. We took them to our "Secret" Beach on the north shore that we love so much, it was really beautiful out yesterday and the sun was so warm. We hung out on rocks and explored until the sun got too low and our fingers started to freeze. I found the best piece of green beach glass! I have a little collection going.
Then we headed back to Ali's house and ate lots of snacks and drank blueberry beer and talked. It was a really wonderful evening, Sofia and David feel like old friends even though we just finally met in person. I have so many friends across the country, or world even who I havent even met yet, and it's always so much fun when we can get together. They are still in NYC until Saturday! So Ali, Steven and I plan on taking the trip in once or twice and showing them around. Then I just need my passport so we can go out to Canada to visit them!
This sweater as you have seen in my last post, was thrifted and remins on my body for the most part whenever I am home. Soooo warm and comfy! This great great dress does not belong to me, but Ali was kind enough to lend it to me for a bit. It's super slinky and really comfortable. I like layering it a bit here and wearing thick tights, but I can't wait to wear it in the summer too. The black tights are from H&M that Ali gave to me for christmas like 3 years ago! And still no runs or anything! Black boots are thrifted as well as the belt, and this market bag I just came across at the Salvation Army last week. Very excited about this, it's perfect for summer. I really can't stop thinking about spring and summer..

Spring Flowers
In the words of my best friend Ali, "I know it's spring when Trader Joe's gets their Daffodils in!" and it's so true! Well, it is not spring quite yet, but we have started getting the beautiful Daffodils in and I expect to be buying them a lot as my weekly flowers. They are quite cheap, only like $1.49 for a few stems, and they are so pretty. They give off a lovely sent as well and the color is so cheery! The beautiful white Hydrangea I have here was part of a bigger mixed bouquet that was being thrown out at the end of the night. This bloom was wilting and on it's way out too but I asked to take it home and a little stem snip and some water and its so beautiful! Twice as big as it was before and it's lasting incredibly long! Hydrangea's are my favorite flower, they are so so beautiful, come in so many colors and they dry so beautifully.
I really enjoy getting myself flowers, they look so great by the window in my kitchen and make me so happy every time I see them. The only problem is keeping the cats away from them! Oh, and you can see my wall of flowers drying, all ones I have previously pictured on here. They are right next the that same kitchen window, its become my little flower corner :)

Dressed in blue
It's funny, I was just about to do a post on some goodies on their way to me in the mail. I did a bit of Etsy browsing last week.. which led into Etsy impulse buying.. but a discount code was involved.. and a high balance in my PayPal account.. so it was practically free!!....
This is how I try to rationalize my problem with shopping. You should hear the conversations I have with myself after coming home with a stuffed bag full of goodies after the thrift store! This dress is one of the things I bought, seriously it took me like 5 minuets between stumbling upon it and hitting "Commit to Buy"! It's so cute.. and this navy color blue has been on my new list of colors to wear with my hair.
I got it from The Vintage SideShow which is filled with great stuff with really nice photos. I love a clean looking shop like this, really draws my eye in. Add them as a friend on facebook and get a code from 20% off! thats what I did! In my package I was given a great little business card, and was invited back with another discount code! Great shop guys, check it out!
This AMAZING colored slouchy sweater thing I just thrifted yesterday on my day off. I have another sweater in white of the same kind of style, I see sweaters like this at thrift stores all the time, but this color! And It's ever so soft. I'm going to get a lot of wear out of this one. In fact, just this morning when the mail arrive with my goodies I was lounging around wearing a teeshirt and undies and this big guy. Jeremy kept telling me to put pants on!
These shoes I got at a yard sale for $3 I think two summers ago. They didn't have a buckle at the time, so I haggled ;) got that fixes at a cobbler no problem. However.. they are a bit weak between the heel and rest of the shoe. Makes them bend kind of.. so I have never really worn these out of the house! Sucks right? I suppose I can get that fixed somehow, because I really do love these shoes. They remind me of a Chloe shoe or something..
The little Cameo I have on was my mothers, its very very old and British I believe. It usually stays safe in its little box on my shelf when it's not being worn.
So the other things on their way in the mail to me.. A pair of shoes in the same colors as my dress! They also arrived today and are very comfortable and fit well. I don't usually buy shoes on Etsy because most of the time they dont fit. One other time, and this time I have had luck, and I know I will get some good wear out of these granny shoes.
Oh yea.. I also have been wanting a pair of the Jeffery Campbell Lita Boots for a while now. And so I got my tax return which I plan on saving.. But I am very comfortable right now financially so I thought what the heck! I did a little online searching around for them like last month. I found a pair on Solestruck but at the time they didn't have them in my size, 8. There was a link for getting an email when they came back in stock in my size.. so I figured why not.. I was still on the fence and this would give me some time to decide. I kind of put it a bit more in fate's hands, you could day. So I signed up and then kind of forgot about it. But then the other night I was on break from work and I came home to pet my cats (I live 5 minuets from my job) and check my email and I got a notice telling me to act fast! Size 8 was in! I looked at the listing for a minuet.. thought back and forth about it.. then I hit add to cart! Then I wasn't sure about it.. wanted to read the customer reviews again, opened a new tab for the listing and OMG! sold out!! But allas! I still had my unfinished order page open! So in whirlwind few minuets I completed the order and it was final!!
Whoa.. that was a crazy story..but I am now the proud owner of a pair of Lita boots. Well in 4-8 business days I will be! Whatever man, I never spend money like that.. it's a little treat to myself and I think Lita and I will live a long happy life together!
Thanks for reading all that! Ha!
Dye day
So here's the coverage on the day of dying Ali and I had fun with. A couple of years ago Ali was gifted with this amazing dye set from a friend. It's from the 70's and is filled with the most amazing colors. I should have gotten a photo of the set because it really is quite nice. Perfect condition and the colors still work as great! The hardest part was choosing the colors! As you can see we chose quite the variety, but the favorite of the day had to be the red dye for sure. It took over other colors really well and was just such a nice shade. That floral cropped top picture above was dyed in the red, and it really is my favorite of the day!
Nearing the end we got a bit more experimental, as you can see on the green and purple dress. Dying clothes really makes for endless possibilities. These were some things I just didn't wear much anymore. Or things I liked but something was just kind of off. I think it's a really great option as a thrifter where I'm often looking at the racks and come across something really cute but oh no its bright pink and I never wear that color! Problem solved in one sunny messy afternoon ;)
Ali still has a bunch of dye left and it's something we are going to be doing more often! Even after we run out of the great 70s dye I think we are going to be on the look out for more and keep on doing it. It can be a bit intimidating at first, but if you mess up just think, you can always dye it!

Complimentary
Sorry I've been in hiding for a couple of days. This week I have all three to midnight shifts and so time isn't really on my side. Yesterday i went over to Ali's to dye some clothes. I'll have more photos on that later. It turned out really great! Today I have off and I've already been very productive. Started off early at the thrift store where i scored some GREAT things! Then I went to the bank, opened a savings account and all that. Now I've got a bit or cleaning to do and other things. I'm watching Witches of Eastwick on instant watch, and its great! Cher sure is a babe in the movie.
Everything but the shoes belonged to Ali a few days ago. She did a bit of purging and I got some new additions to me wardrobe! The shoes are thifted vintage and I love them to death! Oh and the belt is also thrifted.

Photobooth photo-dump
So, I was sitting here looking through all my old photbooth pictures and I decided to do a huge photo dump of all my favorites from the last year. I never really got around to doing a year in review post, or a one year blog anniversary post.. so I guess this will act as that :) I got my Mac for Christmas of 09 so the pictures start around then. You can see my hair change over the year, I had bangs when it started! You can see when I was still living at home with my family and my black cat Mongo. And lots of my brother cats now! Most of these are just photos of myself messing around, many of these have made it onto this blog already. So scroll down for literally like 60 of my favorite photobooth photos from the last year. Hope you're not sick of seeing my mug once you're done!
