So I am back from the west coast and settling back into cold weather and post subway suspension for two weeks in New York. It really feels like I haven't even left at all, but here I am having just been to six different cities, a lot of which I hardly pent 24 hours in. I saw a lot of beautiful places and met a lot of amazing people and took lots of photos. However I went to Walgreens today to get my two rolls of film from the trip developed.. and much to my displeasure the roll from MOST of the trip was totally blank. Nothing. So so devastated. I already had a roll of film in there from a while ago, and so all I have are a few pictures from our first night and second day in Austin at the lovely apartment of two of the bands friends Stephanie and Andrea. We were lucky to stay with some really awesome people who were so kind and had amazing homes and just so happend to all have cats. I wish I had photos from the other places, and the other cities.. but there is nothing I can really do about that now. So enjoy what was salvaged and just try to imagine the rest.

I'm delighted to be guest blogging for Emily today as she is off living the dream on the West Coast. I thought I'd share some photographs from last weekend when my other half and I decided to escape the hustle and bustle of city life for the day and jump on a train to Rockaway Beach.

Summer is well and truly gone but the beach was still thriving with surfers, gulls and day trippers.  I grew up by the seaside so always feel right at home when I feel the ocean breeze in my bob and smell the salt air. It was the perfect way to spend the day, however there was a touch of melancholy in the air as I realised this may be the last day we spend at the beach this year before the Winter chill sets in for good.

Hey there, this is Emma blogging on behalf of Emily. Today she is in my native Los Angeles, probably eating tacos and enjoying nice weather. It sucks, however I am beyond excited for her to experience the city I hold so near and dear to my heart. Since I'm not there to show her a good time and all my favorite spots I made a lil' welcome to LA playlist for her and for all of you here reading her blog. It's kind of a weird mix, maybe a bit obvious with all the songs having "California" in their names. Since I have been living in New York for over four years now, I don't listen to music like I used to (I also mainly listen to NPR when I drive around LA these days and that is no fun for a playlist) and it would be real weird if I went and got nostalgic for my high school days in this playlist so instead I tried to pick out some songs that embody what I think of as having a LA vibe. LA runs on a different speed than NY and if you are willing to sit back and enjoy some time stuck in traffic on the freeway with the radio up and the windows down and the sun setting into the horizon, you might just love it like I do!

Hello friends of Emily! It's Anja from Clever Nettle, offering up a lil' post while Emily is on tour. It seems appropriate to share these photos here since they were taken while I was staying with Emily during my recent trip to NY. It was a brief but fun visit, and it was my first time finally meeting Emily in person! The extra cool bonus was that Ali was in town as well, so we all got to hang out and spent the day wandering around the park, eating good food, taking photos, talking about slime. Ali is actually the person who internet-introduced me to Emily a few years ago! I barely took any pictures on my trip, but I did manage to capture George, who is totally blog-famous and even fluffier in person. Emily is going to be passing through Portland with the Twin Sister tour on the 5th, come out at see them at Bunk Bar!

When Emily told me she was going on a road trip with her pals who are in a band, my first reaction was excitement, immediately followed by jealousy. I love a good adventure -  specifically road trips - and often document those adventures on my own blog, so naturally I was green with envy when she told me she'd be hitting the pavement for a few weeks.

My partner in crime, Greg, is also a fan of road trips mostly because of all the amazing historical sights that can be seen while on the road. I have a similar infatuation which lead to our first Civil War related road trip from Pennsylvania all the way to Corinth, Mississippi within the first three months of us dating. That was almost three years ago now and those excursions are still a huge part of how we have fun together.

Eight months ago Greg got a new job that has separated us since. We knew that it was going to be hard, so we decided to have one last hurrah before the long haul: Texas. Greg's from Houston and we happened to be there for his mom's wedding at the end of March so we thought, "What the hell!" and spent the week after the wedding driving clear across the state going as far as Marfa.

The very best part though was camping in Big Bend. The place is enormous. It took us about an hour to get from the entrance sign to the rangers station and then another 20 minutes to get to our camp site! It was worth the journey though because there is no other place like it. The terrain is brutal, the temperatures hot (it was in the upper 80s in the middle of March!) and the views are amazing. The Rio Grande was a shadow of its former self because it hadn't rained in two years, but the canyons and mountains the river carved millions of years ago stand tall. We hiked into Boquillas Canyon and ended our stay by watching the sun set through The Window up in the Chisos Mountains.

I know Emily is going to have the best time in Texas and while she might not be out in the desert, I have no doubt the Lone Star State will leave an impression on her. Anyway, I'll be glad to have her and Greg back this month!

Tan Camera: This Is Our Youth

Today I am on my way to the west cost for the tour with Twin Sister! I am so totally excited, I have been wanting to get out of town for a bit now, and I have hardly even seen the west coast so it's a whole new experience for me. I am all packed and ready to go, I made sure to bring only extravagant clothing so I have no choice but to wear them. Something I am most excited about is since I will be selling the merch, I will have lots of very brief interactions with many many people. I love meeting new people, it will quite an experience only having a few moments with a bunch of strangers who are pumped having just seen a band they love. And I can be anyone I want in that moment. It will be an experience for sure.

So In these 11 days while I will be away I have some guest posts from some friends that will be going up, and I will also be slowly sharing some photos from a shoot I did with a newfound friend recently. Kimi Selfridge, who shoots under the name Tan Camera, contacted me a few weeks ago to model for a long term project she is working on called "This Is Our Youth" where she uses all film (35mm as well as various polaroids) and tries to capture a moment in time. She used my own wardrobe to style the shoot and we went out around Williamsburg and had some fun. This is just the first out of a set of about 5 different looks so be sure to check back for the rest, there is some seriously awesome stuff going on here!
