dinner in brooklyn

this weekend that just passed i took a drive into brooklyn to make and have dinner for my friends friends birthday. it was so lovely, her name is jaimee and i don't know her too too well, but she's a vegan baker, and my friend jeremy is vegan and i was invited..so it just sounded like a great night.
we went in a little early, with lots of goods from trader joe's that we planed on making. jeremy made a fiesta type dip with guacamole, beans, dices tomatoes with cilantro and some vegan sour cream. i bought some balela to eat with chips, and we made pesto stuffed heirloom tomatoes. oh man were they good! it was fun just to make. they were so deilisous, and te seeds on the inside were this crazy neon green, i had never seen such a thing. it was a great array or raw foods we had going. along with some wine and smokes, and some dancing it was a great night.

heres the tomatoes, they came out so good, and it was a group effort since we had to core all these little buggers and the pesto is home made.

stylelikeu

all i have been doing recently is watching videos of girls on stylelikeu and drooling all over the amazing things they have. over the last few days i went allll the way back 40 pages, as far back as you can go and watched countless videos.
it really is a great site and such a great idea. going into these closets to get a tour of all the little treasures found by these stylish women. many of they are thrifters and have some amazing things i could only dream of finding.
here are a two of my favorites..

Ally McCormack from Stylelikeu.com from Stylelikeu on Vimeo.

Ally McCormack looks like a lot of fun to go thrifting with. she has great personal style and she seems really laid back. amazing shoes, amazing hats, amazing sunglasses!! and her nails are so awesome! and theres a flannel she says she go from long island, i wonder where!!

Liza Thorn from Stylelikeu.com from Stylelikeu on Vimeo.

Liza Thorn is hilarious. she opens the interview about how theres a salvation army across the street, so every morning she goes to get coffee and goes into the salvation army. "so its about going like, every day" and then a laugh. i want to be this girls friend. i love her for her personality and her style. she has some amazing pieces but i like how she makes them all her own. that second sequined bib she takes out, its all tangles with other things and she just rips it apart! she loves vintage but isn't afraid to get it dirty and put her mark on it. she plans on keeping it as hers for always. so theres no use in trying to keep it tidy. i don't think i could do that with much, especially something as beautiful as that bib, but i admire her for it.

Etsy wishlist

just a few things that i have in my sight, but are out of reach. please someone buy all of these! they are so beautiful and need to be worn with love. i think they all look quite nice together as well. and i feel i may be wishing for spring just a little too hard. oh yea, its currently snowing by the way...

Photobucket
recently i have seen lost of pictures of cute girls in cute little hats. the kind that just sort of sit on the side, or slightly to the front. or heck, even the back! probibly something a little smaller than this, but i love the color of this one. its all i can think about. now i just need to get one..

Photobucket
such cute shorts. im really into that light peachy color right now. these may not be for wearing everywhere, but i would want to anyways. and i would love to see what the rest of her tattoo looks like. seems beautiful.

Photobucket
my version of an easter bonnet. with my hair all done up inside of it? mhmm.

Photobucket
this one i feel like my best friend Ali would love. so soft and flowing. we would use it in photos for sure.

and all just happen to be from PranceAndSwagger. i guess this is more like free advertising. your welcome! :)

leopard hat

this was the first thing i bought on etsy. i still have yet to wear it, mainly because iv been wearing my leopard coat all the time, and i feel thats a bit TOO much all together. but i have been building up quite a collection of leopard print things. so far i have a hat, the coat, a tank, long sleeve silk button down, two scarfs and a belt. i think thats it. ill take a photo one of these days of it all together, its quite great.
its so funny how i used to hate leopard print, but now i just cant get enough. funny how trends get you like that!
next on the list, SHOES!!

2.8.10

i went to walmart yesterday with my friend jessica. she had to return something so we took a look around. i don't know if anyone has seen the new miley cyres/max azria collection made for walmart.....but it aint bad? i feel weird saying it, and a lot of the stuff there i wouldn't really wear. however i did get these black jeans there. they are ripped up the front, exactly the kind of thing iv been looking for recently. and they were only $20! and made of a really nice sturdy denim too. i couldn't believe it. im defiantly no miley fan, especially since i have a 13 year old sister who had the unfortunate luck of growing up in the time of hannah montana.
the striped sweater is from beacons closet, i got it when i traded some things in over the summer. and belt and shoes are recently thrifted finds. and i am in love with both of them! recently i have been dressing like a rock star, or just a little more hard than im used to dressing. and these two pieces are prefect for that rockability look.
i also got this nail polish at walmart. looks just like that OPI color thats so popular, but it was only $2! i love that. its pretty much the same thing, btu so much cheaper! thats what im all about.

60's eye

60's eye
60's eye
60's eye

i love the simpleness of this eye makeup. its pretty much just some liquid liner, maybe some shadow. but its do dramatic all on its own, and i really want to try it out. i don't wear much makeup, usually some liquid liner and mascara will do it. maybe some blush if im not already feeling naturally blushy that day. but i feel that this look can really jazz up anything without it being over the top.

leopard coat

just the other day i purchased this coat on etsy from darling vintage..

Photobucket
Photobucket

and today i received it in the mail, in something like not even 2 days. coming from california too! i was so excited with the speedy shipment and just to get it. its the first thing iv gotten from etsy, so it was nice to come home at midnight after a long day of work and see the package waiting for me! i wasn't even expecting it, it came so fast!
it came from diane, who runs quite a lovely blog called darling darlingthat i came across the other day through calivintage when they had a blogger meet up recently. its funny because i had already taken interest in this coat a week or more ago, and when i found her blog i didn't even know it was her!
anyways, i highly suggest stopping by her store she is super friendly and very helpful and ships out your order very fast! she she just updated it with some new lovely things.

fishy

for the longest time i have loved fishtail braids, but never knew how to do them. a while ago i looked up a tutorial on how to do it, and it seemed easy enough but i still couldn't really master it. although i did barley even try, i couldn't keep the two sections of hair separate at the base, and it was getting tangled. and i just said forget about it.
the other night i tried it on myself again, for teh first time really. this is how it turned out..
Photobucket

it was quick, and messy and i only did about half cause i started to loose control of it again, but i though not bad for the first time! then this morning i did this one..
Photobucket

sooooo much better! it really helps if you put the hair in a pony first, which you can always take out later. i really love the messy kinda of fishtail braids seen all over the runways recently and in editorials.
Photobucket
last night i searched again, for something on fishtails, anything really, and i came across this crazy blog. its a woman and her daughter and she does all tis crazy stuff to her hair. like you wouldn't imagine, its very cute actually. that girl always has her hair done so nice for everything. but one post i found was on fishtails with a tutorial so check it out here

i think im going to be wearing my hair like this a lot more often!!

cardigan and flannel are thrifted, jeans are levi's, belt is my favorite from h&m 10 million years ago, and the boots are from target.

Photobucket
this is the necklace i always wear. it was my mother's she's had it for years. well actually iv had it for years, in and out of the jewelry boxes that iv had over the years. honestly i'm surprised i still have it after so long. but i'm glad i do. i think it's beautiful.

so once again, i work at trader joe's. its a really great place to work with some really great people. last night a manager i work with rented a studio space for a few hours for all the tj's crew who play instruments to go and just jam. i unfortunately don't play in instrument but my friend (well a little bit more than a friend) jeremy plays guitar very well and he was going and he invited me to come along. i brought my laptop so i could edit these photos actually. i figured i would sit on my computer and go online if there was wireless (there wasn't) and just do computer stuff. listen to the guys jam and take some videos and such. and thats exactly what i did. we also brought some beers along, and since i was kind of on an empty stomach i got pretty drunk!
i had a really good time though. i couldn't hear anything afterwards, but it was fun. only like 3 other guys came out, but they were all really good so it was fun. i need to watch what i recorded, you probably cant hear much cause it was so loud, probably too loud for my cameras little speakers so if i got something good ill post it later.

and heres just a shot i took of the collection of incense jeremy and i have going. we like to burn it a lot.

some kicks and knacks

Photobucket

i took a few photos of my room. well things in my room. i'm still on that cleaning kick and just yesterday i moved my moms old dresser into my room. the one i had was cheap, the bottoms of the drawers were always coming out and that would make the drawer get stuck closed. it was a mess. and i didn't really have enough room. and i just wanted on that was lower, since hte one i had was a tall dresser. i figured a low one would give me more surface space on top, as well as more room for clothes.
my moms old dresser was in the garage so my mom helped me move it in. it gave me a chance to finally go through my underthings and socks drawer. i'm constantly accumulating new things in that department and never getting rid of my old socks with the holes in them. i refolded and organized everything. and i got to arrange some things nicely on top

the photo up top is just of the clothing rack in my room. i also have a closet, but i like to keep my favorites on here since its out in the open. everything nice and hung up for once! and heres dome detail shots of my new dresser top..
