90s does 70s

Photobucket

Last night at work, near the end of the night we have to go around and straighten, which means going through all the racks and looking at each piece making sure its hung right, buttoned up right.. ya know looking nice. This also gives me a chance to shop the racks and really see whats out there. While doing this last night I came across this amazing set!! It's crazy, it's from the 90s but has a total 70s feel to it, and the most amazing indian print! I love cropped tops, and especially this wrap around kind. Give me a high waisted maxi skirt to go with it and i'm sold!!

Another great thing is that I was looking for the perfect outfit to see Sleepy Sun tonight at the Mercury Lounge and this really hit the spot! I am super excited about this show, I have been listening to Sleepy Sun for a while, they are kind of a jam band stoner rock kinda thing, the kind of music I can really get into and a band I have wanted to see live for a while. Well in the last year and a half they have not come out to NY, but I always kept my eye out. Now here they are! and I'm pretty sure tonight is their record release party, being that their new record Spine Hits just dropped today. Can't wait! New Yorkers can be a real drag at shows.. standing around looking cool, but I fully intend to dance my buns off!

Oh and check out these shoes! Another score from yesterday, I don't know what the brand is but I love them. I think I am turning into the clog queen, cause last week when I went to Beacon's with my friend Leeann I found some Swedish Hasbeens for H&M!! And for only $15! I remember when that colab happened and I couldn't make it to the stores in time to get any. I was a bit bummed cause they were more affordable and cute as hell, but I got over it. Thats why I love thrifting and picking so much, if you are patient the things you are looking for will often times find you!!

sheer

Photobucket

I didn't take any photos this weekend, but I was out on LI for easter having a really nice time with my family. Yesterday the weather was beautiful and I sat outside all day long at my cousins house chatting it up with her grandmother all day. She's not mine, she's the grandmother to some of my cousins on their other side, but this lady is amazing. Her name is Virginia and she was born in 1917 in manhattan! She's nearly 95 years old! and although she is starting to have trouble knowing who people are and remembering faces, she has a great memory about her past and things long ago. It was really nice getting to spend some time with her hearing all about her life. And I think she really appreciated the company too.

Today it's back to work, and another beautiful day out. And since I'll be indoors all day, I figured I would wear something extra nice today. I got this dress last year at The Loved One pop-up shop.. which if I recall correctly was very shortly before they started up their real shop in Pasadena! How times have changed, and so fast!! It's a pretty little sheer number with blue flowers, slightly faded in the print here and there, but I like those little kind of details that show the dress has been owned and loved before. This dress is a loved one.

theme fridays: 90s grunge

Photobucket

Another friday, another theme! I really do love this day, gives me a chance to really change things up a bit and wear something I wouldn't wear otherwise. My first inspiration for this look was Liv Tyler in Empire records.. but first I didn't have a good enough shrunken sweater, and second I realized she's just more of a 90s babe rather than 90s grunge. So I thought I would try to go less pretty than what I am first drawn too and look a bit more disheveled.

This ripped tee here is one of my favorites, I don't wear it too much, as it's not really my every day look kind of thing, but it's awesome. I pulled it out of a pile of leaves and "garbage" and other junk at this awesome estate sale I went to over a year ago. It was in this crazy beautiful old house that was falling appart, but I got some good stuff there that day. It was already ripped a bit, but I definitely helped the process with wear. I also added some studs to the pocket last year, thought I would try to look more mad ass or something. The flannel is thrifted from last summer, and the boots and black mini skirt are from Beacon's.

I painted my nails this neon green/yellow color last night, for some reason it felt grunge to me haha. I need to get back into painting my nails now that I don't have some sort of nail stickers on for a long period of time. I'm telling you guys, those things are awesome. They last as long as they promise, real easy to do, usually you can get two sets out of it if ya do it right, and ya get a billion compliments! The Kiss brand ones I most recently had on with the little gems, I would get total strangers on the subway complimenting them and asking all about them. People on the NYC subway try to avoid eye contact and human interaction at all costs it seems, so this it big people!

my heart will go on

Photobucket

Today is going to be a really nice day, first I plan to meet up with my good pal Leeann for some lady date times, thrifting, Beacon's and food and junk. Anna is supposed to meet up with us as well, always enjoy the company of that lady. Then after we get our fill of all those things we are meeting up with Emma and Liz for a 9:20 showing of Titanic and 3D! First off, I am not a huge 3D movie fan.. it gives me a head ach and blocks your vision a bit as well.. but I am excited to see this movie again in theaters and so i'll muscle through it.

Hard to believe it has been my little sisters whole existence since this movie came out! (1997 was the year of Titanic coming out, as well as my sister Madeline being born) and how obsessed I was with Leo after the fact haha. I remember my dad got me a big coffee table book on the making of the movie and all this behind the scenes and costume stuff. It was filled with photos! Photos that I book marked and made my dad get copies of so I could cover my walls with them! And as you can see here, I am getting prepared for the nights events by wearing my Heart of the Ocean necklace I scored at work last week! Obviously just cheap costume jewelry, but still fun!

black

Photobucket

So now it it April! And with this new month comes a bit of change.. I finally had my last day working at Trader Joe's on sunday and I could not be happier. I was with them for years, and it was always a good job, but it was by no means my calling adn I have ben ready to move on for a while now. My favorite thing about that place is the people I work with, and some of the best took me out on sunday night to celebrate the end. Stayed out maybe a bit too late but had a blast!

Todays outfit is so dark, for me at least. Lots of black, but I wanted to wear this cool top I got at work yesterday, it's from French Connection originally. I really like the way it fits and although it hardly has any color, the ones featured are really nice together. I also have been playing around with eye shadow colors more and more, and today I went purple. What do ya think?

theme fridays: upper east side/old money

Photobucket

So it's back to theme fridays! Last weeks installment was non existant, since I did not work last friday, but the theme was "all day deep comfort".. which I wouldn't really know what to wear for anyways. I have strong feelings about leaving the house in pajamas and other such lounge wear, so I don't really feel like I missed out on that one. However, this week our theme is "upper east side/old money" which I had a bit of fun with. Ya know, rich older ladies with pearls and Chanel and little matching skirt suits.. pink hair, purple hair and nicknames like Muffy, Birdy and Tweedy. I'm trying to decide what I want my rich old broad name to be today.. I'm thinking Muffy..

So for this outfit I started with the plaid skirt, which I got from Donnaland warehouse back in November, this sweet little jacket is from there too. One of my favorite pieces that is now just finally making it out of my closet! It's a little hard to tell, but it's neon green under the collar! Paired with a little sea foam green blouse I thrifted a while back. This really pretty pearl necklace collar thing I got at this open air flea in like chelsea on maybe 25th street? I forget, but it's super cool, I scored some good things that day. The earrings I'v had for a while, I have quite the earring collection actually, as I used to wear them all the time, but not so much anymore. And the shoes I got on etsy. And lets not forget these pretty little gloves! my friend Sam from western MA sent me a little package this week with some cool paper items and some prints of her collages, as well as these pretty gloves and a "New York Places & Pleasures" book written in 1957 I believe it was. What a gal! Check out her etsy Papper Bunnies Burrow for some truly amazing collage work!

black and bows

Photobucket

I got batteries for my camera! And a new tripod! yay! Anyway.. I'm off from work today, had to run a few errands, currently doing some laundry.. ya know, glamorous stuff. Going to dinner at Red Bamboo later with my boy when he gets off work, and it's pretty nice out, all in all a good day. Last night was amazing, I went to see First Aid Kit with Liz and Kallie and it was just mind blowing! Those Swedish sisters can harmonize like no other, so so amazing. And with that long hair and the head banging they do, I'm in love. And when they played Ghost Town it was an unplugged version where they asked everyone to be as quite as they could so they could stand together without a microphone and sing.. I have never in my life heard Webster Hall go completely silent like that. Usually there are always losers at the back bar making a ruckus of some kind. It was just amazing! Some damn good bands coming around to NYC this spring/summer. Some shows I already have tickets for to come.. Sleepy Sun, Death Cab for Cutie and Beach House!!! And I hope a whole lot more!

navy blue and red

Photobucket

I'm really peeved with myself for not going out and getting new batteries yesterday! I'm also peeved at these stupid rechargeable batteries that we have had for a while that apparently can no longer hold a charge for longer than one photo. Ugh, technology! So shitty photos again, but I'm trying to stay regular here (heh) so any means to get a blog post up in time, ya know?

So yesterday I cleaned out my bucket at work again, so this means more new clothes! Keep in mind, I have sold in about 4 big bags of clothes since I'v been there too... so we aren;t swimming in clothes over there.. but I do have a lot! This whole outfit except for the tights and shoes is from Beacon's. The only note worthy bit about it is this Steven Alan blazer, I don't think I even have any blazers at the moment, and I'v always wanted something by him! It's a dark navy blue and the perfect fit, I wore it around work all day yesterday before I bought it to see how I really felt about it, and also because I was freezing cold at work yesterday in all those man mad materials I was wearing.

My shoes I got from Donnaland while working for her back in september.. speaking of which it is almost that time again, Brimfield season!!! And this go around I'm going to try my best to be up there all week long, from set up to tear down.. it will be interesting having to use some restraint, since this time I am no longer selling vintage on the side, so everything I take from her will be for me... Looks like I'll have to get paid in some actual paper money this time, because I probably shouldn't get paid a weeks worth of work in vintage just for myself #vintagegirlproblems

bojeangles

Photobucket

So the batteries died on my camera again today, they also did on saturday thats why there is no photos of my outfit from that day. Although I have some instagram photos I can use, cause I gotta show you these awesome pants I wore that day. So today it's iphone photos again. I got these sweet disco pants from my friend Ali a while back, and today will be my first time wearing them out. These photos don't realyl do them justice.. think the american apparel ones but without such a slim leg at the bottom, and better because of this Bojeangles "SKIN-EASE" tag. The top I got from the Williamsburg Beacon's a while back, and these sweet shoes I got from my store recently, they are from Topshop originally. I have been looking for a good oxford shoe for a while, and figured I would see the perfect pair come into work eventually. I had two different pairs in my bucket for a bit.. but there was something about both that didn't quite grab me. And then these came in and I knew I found the ones!
