Never did I ever have to wear a uniform for school or anything like that. I was always glad of it too, from a pretty young age I found out I really liked to express myself in the way I dressed, so I'm sure it would have been a huge bummer. But now this season I find myself dressing like I'm in one all the time. Honestly, you can expect to see me in knee highs every damn day, and my collection of mini skirts is out of control. Thats okay, I like it though, and I kind of like having a uniform for fall cause I can be a bit all over the place sometimes. Now I follow the same silhouette and just change up the pieces or mix some different patterns and fabrics. It's kind of carefree in that way, but always comes off well put together. I'm a big fan of cheap easy ways to dress that look like a lot more time and effort, as well as money, went into it. Like a trick of the eye.

Teen Vogue apartment feature
Durring the summer some folks from Teen Vogue came over to my place to take some photos of my bedroom as part of a blogger apartment feature on their website. I was thrilled to be asked to participate, Teen Vogue was one of my favorite fashion magazines when I was in middle school and high school. And possibly my favorite part in the magazine was all the way on the second to last page where they featured a look inside real girls bedrooms. I always gained inspiration for how to surround myself with cool stuff and make my bedroom my own from those articles. And I always wished that my bedroom could be in it! So now here I am being featured in just that, but this time rather than the pages of the magazine, it's online! This is from my old place, I have since moved out of this apartment, another reason I'm glad this happend, I got to document my old bedroom right before having to pack it all up! So go check it out, and see my silly smiling face.. the photographer kept saying "smile, it's Teen Vogue!" haha, I am not so used to smiling in my blog photos.. so that was new.

Anna Karina
Todays outfit is inspired by Anna Karina, I was foolin' around late last night on tumblr when I was a photo of her and noticed her eye makeup. I always knew she was well known for the blue eye shadow but in this photo it was more of a second cat eye behind the black liner, opposed to it just covering the lid. So I figured I would give it a go today, you can't tell too well from my photos here, but it came out pretty cool, I like it! And the rest of the outfit just fell into place, what is more 60's than a brightly colored mini dress? And this combination of rust colored coat and this olive green was one of my favorites last winter, so I'm excited to get to break this coat out again! Cause let me tell ya, it is chilly out here today!

new friends
Up bright and early today, I think the moving earth and changing sun rays that are now cast into my bedroom in different places is causing me to be more of an early riser. I mean, I am always an early riser, but now I find myself first waking up when the sun is rising, before laying my head back down and trying to get in a few more hours of sleep. I really quite like it, I may just even drag myself out of my warm bed one morning to go on up to the roof to catch a sunrise here and there. But such things are easier said than done.
While I was up on the roof taking these photos, a new, but kinda old friend Anja was sleeping downstairs on my pull out couch.. having just come to town and met me for the first time yesterday! I have known Anja through the internets for a couple of years now and have been dying to meet her in person ever since. I knew she would be one I would hit it off with, but living on either side of the country can make that quite hard! Although I will be in Portland briefly in the beginning of November (more on that later.. exciting news!) I was excited to hear she was going to be in my neck of the woods for a few days as well. My list of blogging friends I have yet to meet in person is really slimming out these days.. and will be even more minuscule come November. (but more on that later!!) And athough yesterday was rainy and really quite cold, we had a good time walking around Prospect park and then enjoying our first soup dumpling experience in the evening with Emma. I was absolutely stuffed by the end of that meal, so good and so cheap!
Today is sunny again, but the rain left something brisk in the air, so when I leave my apartment for work today I will have a coat in hand, yikes! Still sticking with less color this week it seems, black 90s dress layered with a sleeveless striped crop top underneath, old Gap sweater over that and some trusty knee socks and my favorite pair of thrifted 60s mary-jane's that I have had forever. And you will be surprised to hear that the only thing here I am wearing from Beacon's is that sweater!

it girl rag doll X drifter & the gypsy
I am happy to announce a super exciting collaboration I have been working on recently! A few months ago Michaela of Drifter & The Gypsy asked me to take part in a new month feature on her blog where I would post tutorials on various hair styles! She was in the midst of revamping her blog and wanted to have a handful of bloggers contribute monthly in their own ways. I was super excited to get involved, I love doing hair tutorials for my own blog, so having my own little space each month on someones else's blog sounded awesome. For the first round I did what I like to call the twisted up-do, a really simple style that looks like much more effort went into it that I was doing all summer long to beat the heat. Hop on over and check it out, and don't forget to stop by again at the beginning of each month for more ways to spruce up your hair!

philly weekend
Some photos from this past weekend visiting Philadelphia with Liz to see Ashley and her new place. It was a brief trip (I had to be back on a bolt bus the next morning at 8 to be at work at 11, oy) but a great one filled with burgers, candy and lots of photo taking. I think my favorite part was taking outfit photos with these ladies on a small street near Ashley's place, it's always so fun to do when you have other blogging ladies helping you out. Lots of giggles and funny looks from passers by. I definitely need to make more trips out there, especially since it is only about an hour and 45 minuet bus ride and a pretty cheap one at that.

cape town
It's time to break out all my coats and jackets from under my bed, including my favorite little knit cape! There is usually only a few short weeks before winter when I can get away with wearing this guy before it gets too cold. So I will be taking full advantage, especially on these rainy yet still slightly humid days we have been having. I got this dress at work the other day, believe it or not it's actually an H&M dress! Simple and cute and easy to throw on, so I dig it. And life would not be complete these days without a pair of knee socks, I think these ones hail from H&M as well.

flutter
Dark and gloomy today, the sky as well as my outfit. I was going to go for something bright today to match my nails which had been hand painted by my friend and artist Taylor Mckimens just last night. I was gonna get a better shot of them, but my camera battery died before I had the chance, you can kinda see them in a few photos. But this dark and paisley outfit is what I ended up with. There is always tomorrow for a bright colored outfit! Color is the usual for me, so it's sometimes nice to step out of that and wear black, which hardly seems to make an appearance in my outfit choices. I got this blouse at work this week, it's by Catherine Malandrino, which we get a lot of at my store and which I normally do not have too much of a fondness towards. But how can you say no to these sleeves and that collar?!

babydoll
Feeling pretty 90s inspired today I suppose. Broke out this little babydol dress, except it really is a little girls dress from the 40s that I got from my good friend Courtney. Something from her own personal collection that I really coveted, then I come to find at the May Brimfield that she was going to sell it. I snatched it up before anyone else had the chance to. It's quite short on me, but a pair of shorts underneath ease my worries about walking up subway steps. More knee socks as you can see, I really am dreading having to wear full on tights, but these days there is still a touch of humidity in the air, so knee socks work just fine. I picked up this shrunken Gap sweater at work last week, just kind of realized I don't have to many sweaters or cardigans to throw over things now that there is a chill in the air, so I am working on building up that collection.
