saturday
Holy crap you guys, this amazing buy came into work the other day of all BEAUTIFUL Victorian and Edwardian stuff! It was all in pretty good condition and not a super small size either like a lot of it usually is since women wore corsets back then and such. It was like hyperventilating waiting for my friend Meg to finnish going through it so I could get my hands all over it. This little top here came from it, but I also got quite a few other things.
Some other stuff I'm excited about here, the key necklace was just given to me by my boyfriend Davey. He just got back a few days ago from a month long cross country tour, he picked this up in Dekalb, Illinois. The hand charm I also got at work recently, it is called a Figa and it's a symbol of good luck and strength. I have been wearing it every day since I got it. And lastly this blue bracelet with the cross on it I found sitting on the bench while waiting for the subway. I am not religious, but I thought it was beautiful and ment to be found by me, so now I wear it every day.

street style in film
This year I took my first real swing at street style during new york fashion week. It was the first on second day of the week I think, I was having a meeting in the morning with my friend Amber about a look book we are working on together, and at the end of the meeting we just decided to go over to Lincoln Center and check out the scene. Amber has an ongoing polaroid project where she takes photos of strangers and asks them two questions, so she is quite good at walking up to strangers and asking to have their photo.
I was a bit shy about it, but I gave it a go. I was only shooting with my Canon Sure Shot film camera, and I really didn't have any interest in getting a full length of someone standing there looking like they were getting their photo taken. I much prefer candid natural moments and movements, so most of the photos I took were of just bits and pieces of people. I was really only drawn to people with lots of color or pattern or awesome accessories. I'm pretty happy with the way these came out actually, wish I had gone a few more days and tried my hand at it again.

blue
I have been gravitating towards the color blue more than ever right now. Growing up if someone asked me my favorite color it was always green or purple or yellow or something. I felt like I never chose red or blue because it was such the obvious choice. Everyones favorite color is blue, whats the fun in loving something that everyone else loved. But the blue, it's just speaking to me recently. I feel like I have adapted it into my wardrobe more and more, and red and blue together is like, the best right now. I feel almost like I should have put another hint of red in here, but these red beaded necklaces have been my security blanket recently. I like to switch up my necklaces each day, but if I can't think of a good one to wear these three strands seem to go with everything and look really simple but well put together. The stuff I keep on my wrists and fingers are an every day thing though. Never was into decorating my wrists much until just a few months ago. And now I can't imagine taking them off.

potluck
Saturday night I went to the best friends potluck ever. It seriously felt and smelt like thanksgiving, all the greatest people were there and the food we all brought totally fit so well together. I can not be happier with the amazing people I have come to know here and feel so lucky to surround myself with some kind and talented people. Sometimes I have to pinch myself.
I also pinch myself daily now ever since I got THE MOST AMAZING JACKET EVER. Someone please help me in identifying where it came from and in what time period. I don't feel like it was made in america or anything, and it seems 70s, but if it's coming from a different country with more of an ethnic traditional background, well then it could be from anytime. Either way, I pretty much throw this baby on top of everything these days. The fall chill has hit the city and it is quite necessary to have a jacket or sweater on hand when leaving the house. I hope this beautiful weather continues on just a bit longer before it turns into dreary winter.

Arcadia by Samantha Pleet
Here it is! Samantha Pleet's short film for her SS14 collection Arcadia. I had the great pleasure of being a part of this film, also staring Hannah Metz, Andrea Estella and Carlen Altman. It was directed by Maximilla Lukacs and Sarah Sophie Flicker out on Long Island, it truly felt like we were in a magical far off land for the two days we worked on it. Please check it out, I hope ya like it, we think it's pretty rad!

thursday
Yesterday was such a great full day! I started they day off bright and early with my new friend Amber to have a meeting about a few look book shoots we are going to be working on together. She is a photographer that moved here from DC earlier this year and she is just about the sweetest person I have ever met. She's also got a great sense of humor, and might I say a bit strange, and Amber, you know I mean that in the best way possible! After our meeting we decided to make an impromptu trip up to Lincoln Center to take in a bit of the madness at the first day of NYFW. I tried my hand at some street style photos with my film camera for the first time, and we met some pretty cool people. I also ran into Erin (and I mean this literally, I saw her from across the plaza and kind of skipped over calling her name with arms wide open for an embrace) and she snapped these photos of me in my super stripy outfit.
Fashion week for me mostly means getting to see a bunch of friends who come into town. I am super excited for this upcoming Sunday where we will be having our now 4th annual picnic in central park, which is just a gathering of blogger and non blogger girls alike. A chance for us to chill out away from the hoopla of NYFW and actually get to have some conversation and lots of laughs. Come hang if you want to, I went to the first one that Erin arranged a few years back without knowing anyone who would be there, and I have made some great friends because of it. We will be meeting around 1pm in Sheep's Meadow, come find us!

sunday
I got this dress at work last week, it's by a brand KNT by Kova and T which I did not know before, but if the rest of the designs are this dreamy I'm gonna have to check them out. The necklace is from Etymology on Etsy, I have shown a few pieces from this line before. It's made by a regular customer at Beacon's named Natalie Jacob, she's a sweetheart and has a great eye for color and materials when it comes to her jewelry.
I just want to say something for the record, you may be able to see here and in some of my past posts since last winter that yes, I do indeed grow out my armpit hair. I started doing it last November because of a guy actually, someone I was casually dating who told me he liked it when girls wore their body hair naturally. At that point my armpits were really the only thing I did shave, my body hair is pretty light, leg hair don't bother me much. I have this stupid mole in one of my armpits anyway and it was always a huge pain to shave around it. So I figured I would give it a shot. I did it for him, I was intrigued by someone who found it attractive to be natural, but have kept it going for me.
It has been one of the most empowering things I have ever done. It makes me feel like I really own my body, that my body is the way it is for me, not for anyone else or society. I like that it might be somewhat surprising to other people when they see it, to see a pretty girl grow out her armpit hair and not shave it because she was always made to believe she was supposed to. And I know a lot of ladies who do this now, I would say almost a good half of the girls I work with grow theirs out, or have at some time or another. When Grimes was featured in Bust a few months ago you could see her armpit hair, and I saw on her tumblr how pleased she was they didn't decide to airbrush it out. I will see strangers out in public sometimes who wear theirs the same, and I feel like we are part of this secret club or something because we realized how good it feels to own our bodies. I'm not saying it's for everyone, but it's something to think about. This is the body you will spend this lifetime in, there is no reason to be afraid of it, explore it and enjoy it. It's just hair, after all.
