hat!

every saturday jeremy and i have off from work. its the only day we aren't available to work, i guess so we can have a day off together. and just always know that we have that day off (its hard to make solid plans sometimes when your schedule changes from week to week.) so the other day i looked up this flea market i heard about on long island. didn't find anything about that one, but i found some other place. i wasent sure if it was going to be one of those kinds that sells junky jewelry and perfume. things like that. so i decided to call and find out if they had any vendors selling vintage clothing. the woman said "what?" and i said "i havent been to this flea market before and i wanted to know if you sold any vintage clothing" and she said "oh yea theres some if you go down the stairs when you come in."
so maybe she misunderstood me and thought i said simply "clothes" because alas, there was no vintage clothing, it was the sort i thought it may be. so that was a bust. especially since we had to drive quite a bit west on the island to get there. so instead we headed back east and i wanted to go looking for this vintage shop my friend had told me about. its called remembering yesteryears. and oh man, it was amazing. there wasent too too much clothing, but i sure found some good pieces. and ended up leaving with all but one of what i wanted. i had to do a bit of haggling. but i got two dresses and two hats there.
the photos of the dresses will have to wait until tomorrow with better lighting. but for now heres the hats. one of them i actually got in the mail today as a trade on etsy. its quite amazing!
ooh! and i also got a pair of shoes in the mail today, these were purchased with my hard earned cash though. once again, photos of those to come tomorrow!

photos by sandra savic

so i have never really modeled professionally. i have always done with for my best friend ali. thats how our friendship started really. and when i went to FIT i helped out a few photography students by modeling. and here and there for other things. i dont think iv ever been paid or even compensated really. but since now im getting a bit older, and i dont want to just work at trader joes forever, iv really been playing with the idea of doing this for a living. or at least so i can have some extra cash flowing in.
im almost certain i can at least get one job, i kinda know what im doing.. i dont really have the hight (only 5.5"... 5.6" if i feel like telling a white lie) but i think i have the look. so im currently trying to put together my own portfolio (is that what they call it in the modeling world? i wasent sure..seems right to me..) consisting of some of alis photographes..and well thats really all i have.
so a friend of a friend who i recently met, names sandra savic, is a photographer, she worked for next modeling agency at one point, and so she helped me out! well we kinda helped each other out (shes going to be using a photo or two that we took last night in a show she has coming up!) and ww shot about 600 photos last night!
it was a really fun experience. got my hair all done up by my friend kristin, i styled the whole thing with clothing from my personal wardrobe, and well it was just really fun. and i think these shots will really help my portfolio have more of a fashion side to it.
here are just a few shots, we are in the process of narrowing them down and doing a bit of touching up.
sandra is going away for a couple of weeks, but when she gets back we have some more shoots planned, more of an outdoorsy thing, posing in front of a beautiful vintage volkswagon bug she owns (which is for sale and which im now really hoping i can buy from her once i get paid from modeling..its a vicious circle!)

pre-camping errands

Photobucket
Photobucket Photobucket

today has been a busy busy day. this weekend is my best friend alis birthday. so to celebrate her and her boyfriend steven, jeremy and i are going camping up in the catskills region. i am so so excited. i havent been camping in four years, since after my senior prom! we are going to mongaup pond camping grounds about a three hour drive away. we picked it because the site we found siad its for campers who like deep woods and seclusion. and let me tell you, its in the deep woods alright. no towns around it really, only trees. i cant wait to get a real good look at the stars while being away from all the city and suburb lights.
today we did a bunch of shopping tog et things together. flashlights, rope, duct tape, fire starters, camping chairs, food..you name it. we are trying not to pack all too much as we are all taking my car with one of those snail compartments up on top. its gong to be an amazing weekend. i just want wait!

coney island, siren fest

coney island, siren fest

yesterday, on a very very hot and humid day i spent it all outside in the blistering sun for siren fest 2010. it was fun, my friend natasha came with me. and my friend celeste who i interned with at marie claire also came along. i dont get to see her much so that was real nice. we sat on the beach for a bit when we got there which was my first time doing that. i didnt get to go in the water, cause honestly i didnt want to leave my stuff on the beach unattended. back home on long island i would do this..but in the city it didnt feel so safe. womp womp.
it was very hot out. i was covers in sand and sweat, it was not too nice. but it was fun just to go to coney island and to people watch..im a bit fan of that. also siri of ringo, have a banana has a boyfriend alex who is in the pains of being pure at heart, who played the show. i got to see her, we ran into each other while getting pinkberry from the booth they had set up. we were supposed to meet up after alex's band played and packed up, but my friend started feeling sick, and we were very uncomfortable and in desperate need of ice cold showers so we left a bit early.
but in between bands we got to stop at the small coney island history project. they had many photos of the park in its hay day, photos of the numerous coney island fires..since everything was built of wood and probably a bit dangerous to operate. thats when i really would have liked to be there. when it was a park for adults to come and play, to crowd the beach until there was literally no room left! le sigh..

banana pancakes

my boyfriend jeremy and i like to cook a lot. well a decent amount. hes vegan, has been for round about 10 years. i am not, but i eat most of my meals with him, and so i eat vegan most of the time. i do rather like it, and really the only thing keeping me from going vegan myself is that i love trying new things, and i dont want that to hold me back. i also love eggs.. i dont think i could give those up.
but we make many tasty things together. and making breakfast is one of my favorites. we often make this really yummy tofu scramble with garlic and cumin and turmeric. and with some potatoes of some sort, wether is hash browns of just potatoes cooked with some garlic and olive oil. yum! ooh, or some french toast, ah its so good. the secret is to bake it!
but i also love making pancakes. maybe one of the first things i learned how to cook was pancakes, i just love the whole process of it. all the flipping. so jeremy only had a small pan where we had to make one at a time. and i said, well we need an electric griddle of some sort. so i went thrifting with this in mine and voila! i found one, and for only $6! its a bit old, but still works and so we broke up out on saturday and made out first batch with the new-old griddle. and they were fantastic!

swim suit summer 10'

these are the high waisted swim bottoms with the mesh bits i mentioned. i just love it. although i was very torn between this one and the plain black one with the ribbing when i was there trying them on. but i decided to go with these ones cause its what i originally wanted, and they are different.
the top i got off etsy from shantie a week or so ago and i just love it! it has boning along the princess line to keep the "bow" shape. i did have to do a bit of reconstruction cause its made of a girl with bigger breast than i have. so i cut open a stitch or two, cut down the boning and now it fits like a charm. its made of cotton and not too proper for swimming, but i dont care!

i also just gave myself a little treat and finally bought a pro flickr account! its been a long time coming and i love it! so happy!

tonight im going to "alive after five" which is a street fair in a local town that happens every friday. goin to drink beer and dance in the streets!

new sunnies

Photobucket

my new sunnies! yesterday i took a long lone drive, in rush hour traffic no less, to go out to the huge roosevelt field mall in nassau county. i really went out there to get some black and mesh high waisted swim bottoms from american apparel, which i did. but then i said "hey, ill stop at urban too, check them sale racks"
i dont get to uo often, there isnt one close by so i wanted to take my chance when i had it. nothing really good, all still a little too over prices. im looking for that real out of season $5 stuff they sometimes have. but no luck. so on my way out i took a look at the sunglasses and right before i was about to turn and leave these caught my eye!
thank god! cause i had also left my house without sunnies that day so i was in NEED. and only $10. all in all i spent about $40 on that trip. but for two staples i really needed. so it was worth it.

etsy update preview

i have so many items of clothing, you would not believe. most of it never even worn by me. thrifting allows me to do this. i either pick it up with intentions to sell it, or its cute and i want it for myself..and then it just never actually makes it onto my back. either way, your going to benefit from this!
tomorrow is my day off and so im gonna make it a very productive day. tonight i measured all of these items and tomorrow im going to photograph them, and hopefully list a few. and very cheap too. i need to get these out of my life and into you lucky girls' closets! heres just a little preview of all the beauties to come. and this it just a quarter of the things i have for golden fur vintage!

salvation army treats me good

today i had the day off and so when jeremy got off work i took him on some thrifting adventurers. out in Riverhead which is a bit of a drive there is a salvation army that i have only visited once before, due to its long drive away on the LIE. but today was the perfect day to head out there. it was sunny, and hot (but not as hot as its been..we have been experiencing a heatwave on long island and today it was more like 85 instead of 97) and we had plenty of time to browse.
i would have liked to go yesterday since wednesdays they have all but one color tag on sale, but its so cheap anyways that it doesn't really matter. we also stopped at this small thrift store, didnt really see anything there. and then hit one more salvo before heading home. and i hit the jackpot! well sorta. iv had better days, but i did find one of two things that were on my list of things to be on the lookout for when thrifting. oh and i only spend like $25 on all the things your about to see.

Photobucket
Photobucket
oh, heres me posing in front of some hydrangeas. they are my absolute favorite although these were turning a bit brown from the heat im assuming. its actually looked a bit like fall in some places. leaves turning brown and falling to the ground. we need some rain!

this...THIS is my number 1 find of the day for sure! recently iv been looking at vintage swim suits on etsy. not that i was really planing to buy any, i just love looking at the shapes and the beautiful designs that used to be around in the 50's and such. i dont normally look at the swim suits when thrifting cause usually they aren't all too nice. but today i decided to give it a look anyways. and at the second salvo we went to i came across this!!! fits me like a dream as well! i may sell it one day, but for right now its gonna stay in my collection since i dont have anything like it.
oh and guess how much it was?? $2.50! god, i love thrifting. the only down side is that someone at some pint it seams cut out the cups from inside. not sure why, maybe to use them on something else. so it looks a little funny inside. but it doesn't show when worn so no harm done.

ah! this blouse is so great!! i love the little cars all over it. and its the nicest shade of off white, almost a very very light yellow. however, after i brought it home i noticed is doesn't have any buttons..OR BUTTON HOLES! thats a bit annoying, ill have to dos something about that. but it was only like $1 so you get what you pay for.
these tap shorts were the other thing on my list of things to be on the look out for. iv been building my collection of shorts so im always looking for some cute ones. and these are really nice fit very well and are pretty new, not even vintage!

that tank is a smokey dark kinda blue which is hard to tell from the photo. but its knit and kinda heavy, but its cropped and anything cropped i love!
and then theres that yellow top, cute light and silky.

a lovely sheer scarf in one of my favorite colors for summer!

i used to have a bag like that blue one when i was real little. but it was rainbow colors. and some how ever the years its gone missing. and ever since iv wanted another but never seam to come across one..today was that day!
this blue dress i may sell, but not before i wear it at least once. its very cute and summery and i really like the neckline. i also dont have anything like is so thats always something im looking for.
Photobucket
$2 for this bag! probably going to go into the shop eventually.
Photobucket
Photobucket
only $2 for this whole set too! love the fabric and so many different sized bags to use for so many different things!
Photobucket
Photobucket
these are great! i was on the fence about getting them. they were $8 and since everything else i was getting was so cheap, i didnt want to spend so much on one thing (hah, listen to me.. so much on one thing. this is how cheap i am. $8 for a pair of shoes is expensive..) but they fit well, looked cute and then i saw the name on the inside. jeffery campbell! im guessing they are real, right? an old style im sure, but heck, his shoes go for $200! so that was it, i was sold!
Photobucket Photobucket

this last one is going straight into the shop, as soon as i get off my lazy ass and take photos of all the other things i have to sell. i have bags full...literally..
