spring cleaning

Photobucket

This is what I wore today to go thrifting. Saturday my boyfriend and I always have off together, he would have joined along but hes coming down with this chest cold that I had last week. Woops! It was so nice out today, it's a shame he didn't get to come with me, although he's not as into old things as I am ;P

I got this shirt from Ali, I went over her place on thursday to help her with shop photos, and she had TWO of these wonderful blouses, this one a bit more stained then the other. So she sold it to me for a good price. (it's twin will be in her shop soon!) I tell ya, having a best friend who also sells vintage is the best thing. Just sharing our own clothes is fun, such a shame we are totally different shoe sizes though! The pants are from f21, and the clogs are thrifted. The belt used to be Ali's too, that she gave to me. And the sunnies I got at Buffalo Exchange when I went last week.

I spent most of the day cleaning, I have been living here with Jeremy since september, but never quite got around to decorating our bedroom. Or more like re-decorating, since Jeremy already lived here.. and didn't do too much with the space before I came along. This is mostly because our bedroom is this constant battle of trying to keep it clean.. it gets kind of our of hand. We are both kind of clutter bugs and hoarders (for me it's clothes and knick knacks, for him it's books and band tee shirts) so the room we just kind of closed off to the world and just went into to sleep. But no longer! I made quite a bit of progress, and I will try to take photos to show it off soon! Spring cleaning is the best!

Also, enjoy some lovely photos of the flowers in my front yard! Everything is so colorful and green around here, hope spring has hit wherever you are!

LOTS of photos! for once I actually brought my camera out and documented a fun day! I was so excited for this day, I have been watching the Brooklyn Botanical Garden cherry blossom map for the past month now, waiting for the right time when all the trees popped! I had never been to the BBG before, let alone during cherry blossom month, and I was able to get a gaggle of beautiful girls to come along!

First I asked Hannah knowing she would deff be into it! Then I got Siri to come along, one of my favorite people! I hadn't seen her in a while either, the last time was when we bumped into each other in the city while I was at my internship doing returns. Ali made it back from her Ohio trip in time to join in on the fun, and to completely fill my 5 seater car, Hannah's friend Merida joined as well! 4 lovely girls to take in a beautiful day filled with flowers and blooming everything! Perfect!

It turned out to be like the hotest day so far, deff in the 80's or it sure felt that way. It was super crowded cause we went on the free Tuesday, but literally everything popped over the weekend so we could not have picked a better time! We basically sat under the cherry trees shade for a while, the went on a walk and found a great tree to climb, which we proceded to sit in and have long conversations. Then we check out the green houses, and we made sure to get mister softee on our way out. It was really a great day with great people, thanks girls for coming along! lets go on more nature adventures! I have a car! ;)

meg knits giveaway winner

Photobucket

Sorry for the delay on this, I chose a winner for the Meg Knits giveaway and contacted her and shipped out the brallete top, but I never let all of you know! Still new to this giveaway deal, please excuse me!

The winner is Tonya of themoptop.com, a wonderful blogger I discovered through this giveaway! She looks like she has some cute rock n roll style, excited to see her style this piece. And it looks as though she just received her package!

Thanks to everyone who entered, I think I am gong to be holding a few of my own giveaways just for fun. Yesterday I was going through my jewelry box and I have so much and never wear any of it, so I think I'm going to give some away to my kind readers! So stay tuned for that!

easter

Photobucket

Easter sunday, what a nice day. This year we had beautiful weather and I had plans for a nice easy relaxing evening at my family's house with just my parents, brother, sister and jeremy. Oh and my german cousin and his girlfriend who happen to be visiting at the moment :) My mom made some ziti and meatballs, we brought the Bluepoint beer (from right here on Long Island, don't ya know!) and the apple pie. It was a very non-traditional Easter, hah! We sat out back drinking and talking and eating. My little sister was playing with bubbles, the huge kind that make a huge snake like bubble. A very nice sunday.

I got this wonderful little floral hat at an estate sale from a few weeks back. It's pretty much made to be worn with your hair up, and I had been waiting for the right time to wear it. I got this dress on thursday when I wet to Beacon's closet. They didn't end up taking too much of my stuff for trade, not enough summer goods I suppose. But this dress was only $15 "as is" cause of some stains, but you all know I don't mind a stain or two. I really love this dress, it's so angelic and I love the colors and the pockets. This wonderful bag I got from this weird house in the town I grew up in, it's one of the oldest houses in town, and in the backyard she had this second little house/shack thing. It was falling apart kind of, but it was like a little antique shop she ran back there. No one ever really went there, and I only found out about the place a few years before the woman passed and that shack collapsed (and I have no idea if anyone ever salvaged any of the amazing things form inside it!) but you would just kind of pull up and go back there and the lady would sit on her back porch and wait for you to bring out what you wanted and she would give you prices. CHEAP prices too! She was real nice and I got this bag there among lots of other things back in the day. The shoes I got at the salvo last year, perfect perfect shoes! And he little short sleeve sweater is h&m, and the bracelet I picked up at savers yesterday.

I hope the wether was nice for everyone, wherever you are! And that you had a wonderful easter with friends family and foooood!!!

easter sun

Photobucket

Today is absolutely beautiful! Feels like its in the 70s with a slight breeze. The sun is shining and theres passing clouds over head. I wish every day could be like today! But it's really nice that it's easter sunday and soon I will be heading over to my family's house with jeremy for easter egg dying, (have you ever heard of dying eggs with silk scarfs? came across a tutorial video a few months back and we are going to try it today!) food eating and lots of time in the sun. I am excited for this coming week too, it is suposed to be a mix of rain and sun, but pretty much in the 60s or 70s!
More to come on my easter outfit later, right now I'm just sitting outside doing touch-ups on my nails and taking in the wonderful spring breeze hitting my face. It smells like budding life out here! Yay spring!

the IOU project

Recently I received an email from Kavita Parmar, the creative director of The IOU Project, letting me in on a little sneak peak of the wonderful thing they have going on. I watched this video and fell in love. I am a full supporter of this handmade/ d.i.y movement that's happening and thats exactly where this project is going. We live in a world run by technology, media and fast paced consumption. As a lover of vintage and the bygone era of when fashion and dressing ment something, I question all the time where fashion would be today if technology had not progressed so fast durring the 21st century. Things are no longer made to last, they are all made to look the same and because of this, making us look the same.

I'm getting off on a tangent here, I will let the video do the rest of the talking. Please take the time to watch (more like read!) this video, it made me giggle to myself and get a little emotional actually. It made me see that there is an even bigger handmade community out there than I thought, and that is very comforting.

Here are some of Ali's photos from the day I posted about a week or so ago. It was a really cloudy and dreary type day, which can make for some beautiful photos as you can see. Be sure to stop by her flickr for more magical photos.

floral breeze

Photobucket

Today is sooooo windy! It's very nice out and sunny, but it was a bit hard taking these photos without getting blown away. Although I'm still feeling pretty sick today (pretty bad cough and no end to the snot coming out my nose) today is a really good day! In about an hour I'm gonna get in my car and head to Brooklyn, first to trade some things at beacons closet and see if I can find a special treasure to take place of about 20 things I never wear. I'm always so surprised by how I can go through my clothes like once a month an always get rid of some things. Then the real highlight of the night.. seeing a Neutral Milk Hotel cover band!! They are called Neural UKE Hotel (a ukelele is involved) and they will be playing In the Aeroplane Over the Sea in it's entirety. Holy moly! What a great idea. I'm super excited for this, hope it makes up for the bust of a show in MA I went to last month that I thought was gonna involve NMH songs. Its gonna be a good night, I think I'll end up loosing my voice!

This blouse Ali gave me a week or so ago when I went over to help her take photos for her shop. It was gonna go into the shop, but it has some pit stains and she wants to sell better quality stuff.. and hell! I don't mind those pit stains! S she let me have it! I love the detail and the color and the fabric is soft as can be! The belt is also from Ali actually, I needed a skinny brown belt one day so she gave me one of hers. What are best friends for, if not stuff like this :)

This skirt is another thrift find from when I was in MA over the weekend. I was planing on selling it, but I just may keep it for a bit. It's a gauzy type fabric and I really love the length. I feel like I don't have any skirts that hit that point, so it's fun to try something different. And the shoes are the same ones I wore yesterday, I got them from Tialey Vintage on etsy.

I'm trying to smile a bit more in photos! I tend to make this stern face, and not just in photos, like all the time. If I'm not making an expression I tend to look very sad or angry. People I work with ask me all the time if I'm alright, hah. And I keep getting some comments asking for me to smile more.. so i'll try! :)
