made, well

Photobucket

Another day, another outfit! This one today revolved around this sweet sweater I got at Beacon's this week. I was organizing the racks and I see this cute little sweater peeking out, check the tag and see it's Alexa Chung for Madewell, and at only $16! What a dream, I really love coming across something you have wanted for a while when you least expect it, and in your size! I didn't think I would ever own anything from that collaboration unless I came across it in this way, I love thrifting!

My camera ran out of batteries before I could really finnish this shoot, so one of these photos came from my iPhone cause I still needed a more full length shot, what are ya gonna do! The gingham blouse under the sweater is Ralph Lauren that I got from the salvo shortly after moving to Brooklyn, it's sleeveless so it's perfect for layering under things just for the sake of the collar or something. The suede mini skirt was a gift from my friend Ali.

Dead Horse Bay

Photobucket

Yesterdays trip to Dead Horse Bay with my friend Emma was a total success! I mean, I don't think it could not be, there is more than enough glass bottle on the beach to go around, I don't see an end to these things surfacing any time soon! To give you a little brief history, Dead Horse Bay used to be a landfill at the turn of the century, which was then filled to capacity and capped off in the 1930s. It then burst spewing antique garbage all over the beach. Luckily for me, I love antique garbage! And it is all pretty glass bottles pretty much, as well as some shoes and other things that have stood the test of time.

Emma and I took a subway and a bus to get out there, not too bad of a trip at all! And it was so beautiful out, got a bit chilly on the beach, but I have been wanting to come here on a nice day and yesterday was perfect. I now have an even bigger collection of little glass bottles that I don't know what to do with. I really want to plant some succulents in a lot of them, I just hope my cats don't kill them!

spring is near

Photobucket

Today I am going on a fun little adventure with my dear pal Emma! She has spring break this week, and today is one of my days off, and it is absolutely BEAUTIFUL out! So we are gonna get some lunch then go on a little trip out to Dead Horse Bay for some exploring and bottle collecting. These next two weeks are supposed to be like all in the 60s, so I am going to be sure to take advantage of that whenever I can!!

This dress is another new one from Beacon's! I got it a few days ago, but I knew I would want to wear it on a really nice day so I held off till today to wear it. I love the soft girly feel of it, and the light blue color on the embroidery is so pretty. I want to paint my bedroom a color kind of like that!

braids

Photobucket

You are probably going to be seeing a lot more "new" items of clothing around here, or should I say modern stuff with names you know that have belonged to someone else already and i'm getting them on the cheap. In the past two years I have worn almost entirely vintage clothing, and I do prefer it.. however I have always been kind of broke and a bit (okay, A LOT) of a bargain shopper so I don't really buy new things cause they are more than I would like to spend. I love and fawn over plenty of designer stuff and more pricey brands.. but I also love the joy of the hunt when it comes the thrifting, and working at Beacon's is a lot like that. It's kind of like the two wolds combined..

Anyhow, what I'm trying to get at is this dress, you think vintage, yes? NO! It's asos! Which is not insanely expensive, but I have never owned something of their before. And I was so surprised to see this was a new dress after buying it in, the cut is very vintage. It's like an olive green color if you can't tell. I was trying to do something different with my hair than what turned out here. Quite similar but just one braid wrapped around my head like a big messy crown instead of the two, but it was not working out. On break yesterday I was looking at the spring Madewell catalog and was admiring the girl on the covers hair, and thats what I was trying to pull off. Why can't I just have my own personal braid slave to braid my hair in all different ways whenever I need it!!!

Oh, and I included a photo down below of my nails, the same that I'v had since the last time I showed them, but it has been a week now and I just want to show you all how well they are holding up! These are those Sally Hansen nail stickers and are super easy to put on and they really last!! Just starting to chip at the edges, but because of the print it isn't noticeable unless you look up close. I really recommend you all trying them, and if you do it right, you can get two sets out of it!

And as you can see from this last weeks outfit photos, Fred likes to sit on that window basically any time i'm in the kitchen, and thats George in my arms, he's my fat baby.

plaid pants

Photobucket
Photobucket

Look, pants!! I don't wear pants all too often, I'm much more of a dress and skirts kinda gal, but I just came across a plethora of sweet pants that fit me at work yesterday and I just might have to give it a go more often. These I bought last night, they are BuiltByWendy which I don't think I have ever owned any of before, I love the plaid. The sheer blouse was thrifted ages ago, and the striped sweater is from the Beacon's in Williamsburg. I'm about to have the next two days off, and tomorrow I think I'm gonna take a trip back to LI to go thrifting with my friend Andrea. With all the stuff I'm getting at work the last thing I need is to go thrifting on family day at the Salvation Army, but I have been craving it, so what the heck!

blue pink and sea foam

Photobucket

So one of the reasons I wasn't doing very many outfit posts these last few months was because I misplaced the part of my tripod that keeps the camera attached to it. I use a tripod that's older than I am that used to be my dads and it has this little screw that lost the washer that keeps it on.. and so shortly after moving here I misplaced it. Just the other day i found it again... and because I am a fool.. just after using it I set it down somewhere and now I once again don't know where it is.. ugh! So to take these photos the last few days I just balance the camera on top of the tripod platform and hope I don't knock it off, which I did the other day and now my camera has a nice little crack in it.. but luckily still works.. ugh. I don't know why I am telling you this.. maybe to explain the lack of vertical photos in my outfit posts these days.

This skirt I just got from Beacon's Closet last night. We have these little bins behind the buying counter that we can set aside things for ourself in.. after working only 3 days my bin is already full!!! So last night I bought a few things and this skirt being one of them. I really really love the colors! And the shape is so cute! I paired it with this light sea foam green silk blouse and some AA blue knee highs. These days I feel no outfit with a short skirt is complete without some knee socks or something! I think I am just trying to find all the ways to make myself look like a child, but I'm okay with that.

white lace

Photobucket

Another day at Beacon's Closet, another outfit! I really like this getting dressed in the morning and taking my outfit photo before work.. it reminds me of my Wardrobe Remix days back when I was at FIT and I would take my outfit photo and post it before class every day. It's nice to get back into a routine that makes me post more!

Nothing too special about todays outfit. I got this dress from Donnaland, where else! I dug it out of the rags back in November when I went to work at her warehouse in St. Louis. It had a big ol' yellow stain across the front (can still kinda be seen but only to the trained eye) as well as a bunch of black gunk. I decided it was worth it to try and salvage it cause it was so beautiful and fit perfectly. And I was right, pretty much all the stains came out and now it is one of my go-to dresses when I can decided on what to wear.. like today I guess.

Today

Photobucket

What I'm wearing to work today. This dress I do believe I got from Donnaland maybe back in July?.. But I have only worn it once because then the zipper started coming out and it got added to my "needs fixing" pile. A quick fix I know, but I didn't get around to fixing it until like, today. It fits really nice and I love the full skirt, and lets not forget the little dots!

I tried sleeping with pin curls in last night, for the first time believe it or not! Well, I did try them once before, but I didn't really do it right and the curls didn't come out, so I don't count it. I just did like 5 big ones on each side exactly how I do the little curls when I wear it as a hairstyle. It looked really cool actually, and then I slept with a scarf around them... which eventually fell off, but the curls stayed in place. Before I brushed them out and put them into this do' they looked really nice! Curling success!

Oh! And did you know that Sally Hansen came out with new prints for those nail strip things? Well she did and I got some poppy printed ones a few weeks back at target and just got around to doing them last night. I wanted to wait till I wasent working at Trader Joe's so that they would last for as long as possible!! I love these things, best invention ever!
