Photobucket

Aww, a boyfriend photo shoot, for old times sake! Today I convinced Jeremy to take my outfit photos for me since we were going out to get Starbucks and visit the thrift store. But today actually started with a drive into Brooklyn to visit Hannah to shoot some photos of new things for my shop Golden Fur Vintage. (which, by the way, still has a 50% OFF EVERYTHING sale till monday if ya just use the code SUNSHINE) !!!!
After the little photo shoot we did a couple of weeks ago, I really liked the look of these more candid shots, so thats the look we went for this time around for my shop photos. I'm still trying things out here and there and seeing what kind of look I like for it.. what pleases me seems to change all the time. But I think I'm going to like these photos mostly just because it's so much fun modeling for Hannah, things are really relaxed and I think we have the same aesthetic when it comes to things like this.
So this dress is the navy blue wiggle dress I mention in this post that I got from Beacon's Closet. I love it to death, just what I had been looking for in terms of a wiggle dress. Also in the best color I'v been wearing since my hair color change. The RF initials pin I thrifted in a mixed bag filled with other brooches. I don't know what it should stand for now... but I thought it just looked really sweet with this dress. Gives it more of a MadMen vibe. The tights are from forever 21 and don't seem to leave my body these days. And the shoes are thrifted from a long time ago.
Oh! and these awesome glasses! They aren't real, I got them from forever 21 a few years ago and I don't wear them nearly enough. I love the thick frames, kind of like eyebrows! I think teh shape fits me face well too. If ever I need to get actual glasses, these are my go to shape.

Here's this weeks bouquet. Actually I think this one has lasted well over a week now, I think it's all the greens that are keeping it alive for so long. I really love this one, such pretty flowers together and the little cream berries really get me! The last photo was taken last month about an hour before I went to get my hair dyed. Ali can make my kitchen window look so lovely. It also makes me want to have at least three bouquets of flowers at a time like I did around Valentine;s day!
Go check out Ali's other flickr free bliss where you can find more casual candid shots, but always something inspiring.

I liked the way my hair came out today, I ragged it two days ago, and this morning I woke up and the dreads were forming a bit. That happens sometimes if I don't separate the curls enough by the second day. So this is my answer to that, throw it up and stick a bunch of bobby pins in it. I could show ya how I do it sometime, if anyones interested.
This tee shirt I got at an estate sale, a really old place with amazing things! It was all ripped like this when I found it, maybe a little less. Its pretty old and keeps ripping more and more. But I like it ;) and I added the studs too it too. The flannel is thrifted, the jeans are from walamart! miley cyress jeans actually! ha! I don't like her very much, but these were only $20 and they fit really great!

Some of Ali's recent photos from when our friends Sophia and David came for a visit. The colors of these images just blows my mind. Also these are double exposures on film, she's quite amazing. She always has the best luck, or should I just say talent, when it comes to creating amazing double exposures. Things just line up so properly, like look at that tree going right through my eye in the third photo. Beautiful. Be sure to check out her flickr for more photos, and her shop where you can purchase her beautiful prints for a fair price.

Monday

Photobucket

Just hanging around today. I have the day off and I'm basically just trying my hardest not to go out and spend money at target or something. This hat and jacket I wore yesterday too, but the color really looks different on the jacket here. Overcast photos yesterday and photos taken in shadow before sunset today so, ya know. The top it from forever 21, I would like to get a better shot of it, but I have another outfit in mind that I have to wait to wear, then you will see how cute this top is. Under that one is just a little cropped top Ali gave me, The skirt is also from her, but purchased from her shop Fleurs de Lune. The tights are also from forever 21, and the shoes I got on etsy from AshTreeMeadow that I mentioned a post a couple of weeks ago.

Oh! I'm having a 50% off anything sale at Golden Fur Vintage!! Just use code SUNSHINE when you check out. Sale runs until March 13th.

a grey day

Photobucket

Put this on to go run a few errands after I got home from work. The hat is thrifted, the one I talked about being the perfect fit in an earlier post. This is the coat I got from Beacons Closet, I think I'll be getting a lot of use out if it this spring. The two layered dresses are also thrifted, the floral one is something I dyed with Ali but it was supposed to be more red. I think im going to dye it again but under the sheer black dress I like it for now.
The tights I just got at forever 21 and I love the color! They are also nice and thick and really soft, I'm quite surprised. They look a bit out of place with this outfit, but I just really felt like wearing them, ha. The grey thigh highs I think I got at Target a long while back. And I promise I wont wear these shoes in my next post!!! :)

Some recent purchases from Beacon's Closet and Buffalo Exchange. The floral dress you may recognize from todays outfit post is from Buffalo Exchange, here are some much better detail shots of it. It looks so nice in front of light! The short brown one is also from Buffalo Exchange, the one I was going to try on when the floral one found me too. It's hard to tell, but the fabric just above the bust is actual a bit more sheer and see through. A very cool detail I didn't notice till I tried it on .
The wool dark navy blue wiggle dress is from Beacon's Closet, I'm so in love with it! You can't get the full idea here, but it fits me just right! It's very simple but so pretty on. And last but not least this so so awesome suede jacket I just could not pass up! It fits me like a dream and it's already so perfectly worn in for me! Both the things I got at Beacon's were purchased using credit from clothing I traded that day. So in total, I only spent like $38 bucks that day for four awesome vintage additions to my closet!

Cat Day!

Photobucket

Just wanna say you are probably going to see these shoes in like every outfit post this month. I just want to wear them all the time, they are so much fun to wear, with the height and all. And since they are black, they pretty much go with everything! Even my vintage dress here, I just got this pretty baby on Wednesday at Buffalo Exchange in Brooklyn. I was trying on another dress that your going to see here soon when the cute girl working the dressing rooms was like "I see your trying on vintage, you might like this too!" and I did! I cursed her though because I didnt really have the money to spend, even though it was only like 12 bucks, and the other dress I was getting was the same price. But I was still happy she showed me. This is how I justify things!
It's hard to get all the detail here, but this dress has a whole lot of pretty pleating in different widths. The floral is really tiny and white with a blush pink background and tiny marigold flowers thrown here and there. Very pretty, really comfortable. It's the kind of dress I feel like I can dress up and down over and over again. I threw this navy blue little boys cardigan on over it just for the photos pretty much. The sun is warm and shining, but there is a chilly breeze today and I didnt want to freeze!
The belt is thriftd, the tights are thigh highs from god knows where, kept up by The Loved One's "The Bed and How to Make it"! Such a fun undergarment to wear, it makes me feel really fun knowing I have this pretty thing on under my dress. I just got these sunglasses in the mail from Vintage Eyewear 101 on etsy. I haven't had really big frames like this in a while. In fact, I haven't had any sunglasses in a long time. I lost my best pair ever back in the fall and I have been in denial since then, just squinting at the sun as I drive around. I wasn't too sure if these were gonna fit my face right, but I think they are pretty great!
Today is Friday, and Jeremy and I both have off! we are going on a lunch date to Panera and then out to ACE hardware to get some things for hanging a coat rack and shelf. Then tonight Jeremy's band has a show, then a friend is having a party.. so pretty busy day!

Oh! And as far at the title of this post goes, according to a group on facebook, today is Cat Day! I think you are just supposed to be all about cats today. I was going to wear a cat brooch, but the pin was being all weird and I dont want to loose it, so that was left off this outfit. But you all know I love cats!

High-Lita

Photobucket

Get it? Like lolita? But high, cause these make me so tall! Okay, you get it. So I got these in the mail yesterday, right on time just as expected! Solestruck is a great company, the UPS shipping and tracking they use is awesome! I saw exactly when my shoes were leaving certain checkpoints, and that i would be getting them on Wednesday by the end of the day. I worked until 1 so I was hoping i would come home to a package on my doorstep, and I was right!
I immediately put them on and walked around the house in them while I made chili for the nights potluck at the Metz family residence. They really are as comfy as everyone says! They fit true to size and really, so comfortable! it doesn't even feel like your standing on top of 5 inch platforms. Except for when I was chopping garlic at the counter and I had to lean over the accomplish this hah. I can't wait to really wear them out and put them to use. I'm glad my boyfriend is tall already, these make me just about his height hah.
This purple velvet dress I got thrifting in the Hamptons with my mom last week. I saw it and immediately thought of the Steven Alen long pule velvet dress from his current collection. As soon as I saw that dress I knew I had to be on the lookout for something like it at the thrifts. And so here ya go! I like this one better than the sleeveless one he has too. As you can see I cut this one.. a bit too short actually, but still good enough. I need to finnish the hem though, I hate doing that! It's hard to tell but this dress closes up the front with a bunch of hook and eyes, really cool and different from the usual button. I feel like wearing this dress every day! And so continues my long hem line obsession!

Lounging

Photobucket

So today I don't work until 5 tonight, and until then I don't really plan on leaving the house (unless I can find someone to go to free pancake day at ihop with me!) so todays outfit is just for comfort. I plan on finally hemming a pair of my mans jeans for him, and maybe cleaning up the bedroom a bit. I also plan on making some really delish goat cheese raviolis from Trader Joe's for lunch after I finnish this post!

This dress I thrifted like two years ago with intentions of just using it for Ali's photos, as seen here in Ohio two summers ago. As well as here in Fall of the same year.. and maybe a few other times here and there it has been brought along on photo shoots just in case. But it's been hanging in my closet now untouched for a bit, and when I bought all new hangers for my closet and was forced to go through my entire wardrobe, I decided I might want to wear it some time for real. I'v really been into longer hem lengths recently, and the sheerness of it is nice, and the color.. well I think we all know by now this is the color I wear every day now.

So this is just sort of a test run of the dress, I think I will get a lot of use out of it, finny how I'v had it for so long but it feels like something new. These shoes!.. these are my most favorite. I got them at a regular thrift store of mine probably like three years ago by now, and then I did they were never worn stiff leather. I guess this was like summer 08? Shoot.. maybe even 2007? Wow I think it is 2007.. can't believe these are still around. Sorry that was totally the through process in my head. Haha!

Yea, so 2007, wore them out to a bar one night and they felt pretty comfortable. So them I decided to wear them to the city later that week to see She & Him and did a whole lot of walking. KILLED my feet. No joke, we saw them at Terminal 5 which is in like the 50's all the way on the west side, and at the end of the night I was walking barefoot back to Penn station. But then my feet healed and I got to wearing them in a bit and then they were the most comfortable things in the world! They are now so loved and worn so many days on end that they are falling apart. Whenever I wear them my mom says they bring down my outfit. But whatever man, I love them. I really do need to replace them though, I know there are other woven brown leather flats out there. I search on Etsy now and then.. but nothing ever measures up!

As for the rest of this outfit, the black felt hat is thrifted and fits me perfectly! I have kind of a small head I guess, but this one has the best shape and is nice and snug. The leather vest is thrifted as well, it's a child's I think, got it at this church thrift store I went to more often when I was in high school. See, this is why I love thrifting, everything has a story, sometimes perfect things find you and they stick with you for years. Almost everything I'm wearing here I have owned for at least three or four years, they come in and out of my style, but always stick around. Until maybe one day I want to pass it on either by selling, donating, or handing it down to friends or my sister. What's so fun about having the story of your clothes be "I got it at the town mall!" I love the endless possibilities of it and of corse the thrill of the hunt!
