EMILY THEOBALD X Style Rat Street Style from style rat on Vimeo.
A few weeks ago when I was up on the Highline with my friend Emma eating some messy (but delicious) Artichoke pizza before going to the Audrey Grace pop up shop we were asked by this nice girl Frances if she could take some video of us talking about our style and such. So we scarfed down our pizza and she asked a few questions and heres the results! I'm actually pretty happy with the outcome, I don't think I'v done anything like this before and it was all just one take. I don't seem like too much of a weirdo haha. So check it out and be sure to check out the one of Emma Here!Monday, April 30, 2012
dots and stripes
It's funny, these days when I get a day off from work, it's the day I don't post on my blog. Where it very much used to be the other way around since the days I worked I looked like garbage. But now I get dressed up the best for work, have a little routine going of posting before I go to work. So when I get a day off I don't feel so inclined to post my outfits. I get lazy on my days off, sue me! Yesterday I spent the afternoon watching Melancholia.... oh dear lord, you all have to watch it. So good! It was also so nice out so I went to this bar around the corner Franklin Park and sat outside and had a bloody mary with my friend Bob. Then ended the night with my mother and sister seeing Death Cab For Cutie! I don't really listen to them much anymore, but a love Plans and they opened with Passenger Seat and then I died. And this is my ghost writing this right now.
This super cool skirt I'm wearing here I got from Beacon's before I worked there. It's Free People and when I got it it was a bit too bit but I just took it in real simple like, and now it's one of my favorite skirts. I love the way the polka dots get larger at the bottom of the skirt. This top is just a little something I thrifted out on LI a few years back, but these shoes, they are something special! I got them at the Beacon's in Wburg not too long ago, Swedish Hassbeens for H&M, and for only $15! When this collaboration came out I wanted a pair so bad, but missed my change. Instead I just let fate take over and here we are together, two peas in a pod.

theme fridays: saturday night fever
Boy do I love these theme fridays! Especially when the theme is something like this! I pretty much feel like I would wear this any day of the week anyway. I just got this halter top from work recently and I have been dying to wear it. Now that I have been there a bit the girls kinda know my style, and sometimes when your off a day of two ya come back in and they have put something in your holds bucket. This was one of those things I came into one day and I could not have been happier! I feel i'll be wearing this quite a bit come summer.
These awesome pants I mentioned on here once before. I wore them to work one day but didn't end up taking outfit photos that day so ya didn't get to see. But here they are! I got them from Donnaland in St. Louis, pulled these beauties out of the rags! I love how full they are, but fitted where it counts. Also pants without a waist band are always nice, leaves room for eating a drinking! I also got some killer platforms on from Blowfish that I got at DSW last summer I think.
Oh and another thing! I finally got me nose ring put back in! For the last year I had this clear glass post in cause I had to get an MRI last March. And for some reason I just left it in there.. But recently I had been really wanting the ring again, so yesterday I went down to St. Marks in the city and got this baby. Glad to have it back!

denim
Denim today, not something I do too often now that I'm not working at TJ's. I actually don't really have a good pair of high waisted denim, one kinda sorta stretchy pair from f21, a few pairs of high waisted pants, but not denim. These aren't even the perfect pair I had in mind, but they will do for now and were only $10 at work. I also got this cute Vivienne Westwood crop top yesterday, and you all know I love crop tops! And last but not least probably my favorite pair of shoes. I thrifted these boots probably like a year and a half ago, they are so so perfect and fit great. I need to get them resoled terribly bad thought, in fact I have a whole slew of shoes I need to take to a cobbler. The woes of owning second hand clothes.

sheer and floral
So it's back to cold weather here, well not cold but it did rain all day yesterday for the first time in a long time. And with that rain came the 55 degree weather thats going to stick around all week. Bummer! So now I have to start remembering to layer up and wear a jacket when I leave the house now. I guess I shouldn't really be complaining, we have been very lucky with this past winter... but enough about weather!
Today I'm wearing some stuff from beacon's again, this pretty cheer floral top is from French Connection. I really love the colors and how it looks vintage even though it isn't. I guess thats always a bit of a prerequisite for all new and name brand things I buy. I also got my bullet bra on underneath which helps with the retro shape and look. The skirt is from h&m I think, another item that looks vintage inspired.. something that's every common to come across these days in modern clothing is seems.

theme fridays: in mourning
A bit morbid huh? I don't know where we get these themes from sometimes, but here we are! I actually felt a bit underprepared for this one. No black lace gloves, no hat with a vail.. but I tried my best! We actually have a little something to mourn at Beacons today, one of the girls is leaving and today is her last theme friday with us. She's a blogger too actually, her name is Nicole and she writes a blog called Running in Wedges, a super fun chick I will miss to have around at work.
So today this outfit consists of an old ratty victorian skirt I got from Donnaland last summer, and I also got these lovely AMAZING shoes from her back in november. Unfortunately they are a bit broken and therefore I got them for free from her, but they are so pretty! I won't actually be wearing these out of the house today, but I thought they were fitting for the photos at least. And to top off the outfit a black lace top that was thrifted and a little black pill box hat I got from god knows where, probably an estate sale.

cheryl creations
So one of my good friends Alley has started working with me at Beacon's and it's sweet! Yesterday was our first day working together and it was really cool having her around. She's a vintage feind as well, but luckily we are different sizes, as well as shoe sizes so no need to fight over good stuff we find. Not like we would really fight over a silly dress, but it definitely makes it easier hah. So when Alley was going through a buy yesterday she bought in this sweet top, and I called seconds on it, and now it's mine! It's made by the same brand 90s Cheryl Creations that made this cool indian print set I found last week at work. Which I think is my new favorite 90s brand haha. but it makes me sad because I'm sure somewhere out there is a skirt that matches this top and boy do I wish I had it! The print in this one is pretty cool, a little hard to tell from the photos but it's covered in vintage beach babes and beach umbrellas and stuff. In love!

coming up daisies
Yesterday was a great day, I pretty much spent the entier day at Prospect Park! First I road over there in my bike just on my lonesome, spread out a blanket and read a book. Then went back later on with my friends Tyler and Bob and just hung out. Boy was that park filled with people! I really need to spend more time there. It was so beautiful out, Bob and I were in the park till dark, perfect weather! Today is going to be in the high 80s! But today I will be working all day. womp womp! This dress I got from Guvnor's Vintage in Park Slope back in september. It's one of my favorites with its huge yellow and white daisies. And my new trusty Salvatore Ferragamo sandals from Beacon's that will probably be gracing my feet all summer long.

shorts and ruffles
Ahhhh, another beautiful day! Well I haven't actually left the house yet, but it's currently near 70 degrees and sunny, and my day off! Not totally sure what my plans are yet, maybe a bike ride to prospect park for some sun action, but this kind of weather really puts me in a good mood. And for the occasion I broke out one of my favorite crop tops! I got this one back in September when the lovely Ashley of Fancy Fine came to stay with me for fashion week. She was to stay on my couch all week even though it was our first time meeting! And along with Ashley treating me to many a drink on our nights out, she gifted me this great top as thanks for letting her stay! Chick knows me too well! Unfortunately I only got to wear it once since then being that fall was right around the corner. But now that spring and an early summer is here I plan to wear this cutie much more often!
And here is another example of just one fo the many cute pairs of shorts I own. These ones I thrifted like two years ago, the are originally from that cheap mall store 5.7.9, y'all remember that place? Man, I am really beginning to love the 90s for their vintage inspired duds, nearly as good as the real thing! Now, I'm gonna get my buns off this computer and go enjoy the beautiful weather! Oh and thanks for all the well wishes in my last post.. still sick, but the functioning kind of sick. It's nice to know you are all actually reading when I'm writing here too hehe.

tomboy
Maybe you don't know this, maybe you do because I have probably talked about it before, but I have a lot of shorts. Over the last two years or so I have amassed quite a cute collection of high waisted shorts in all different fabrics, colors and shapes. I love the look of a good fitting pair of shorts. However, it seems I never wear them! I don't know why.. I guess I just always gravitate towards skirts and dresses. But I am going to make it my mission to get all these babies out in daylight this spring/summer. Especially now that I plan to ride my bike around Brooklyn more often, shorts are always better for that than dresses ever were.
This pair is actually kind of new to me, I bet you will never be able to guess where I got them, Ha! I love the grey corduroy, and I love when shorts/pants don't have a waist band cause they are usually not as tight fitting around that area, leaving room for belly expansion after eating yummy food. The blouse I think I thrifted?.. I can't really remember, and this pretty red cardigan I got at work yesterday too.. so much clothing!
I am currently getting sick, a cough and never ending flow of snot (sorry) has taken over and it is no fun. Getting sick in the spring time i just about the worst thing ever. So far I am not bedridden, but it does make it hard to take my bike out on long trips, so I have not yet. Heres to hoping this thing don't get much worse!

theme fridays: bright colors
So another Friday is here and this means time to dress up! Well, I like to dress up every day, we all know that, but every Friday I get to stick to a theme along with the other chickies I work with. This week it's bright colors! Which was really no problem for me, cause I do own a lot of color. First I was going to go with a skirt and blouse combo, both of which had very bright clashing prints.. but then I just decided to keep it simple and wear one of the brightest dresses I had. I got this one back in like August from the Wburg Beacons, it's some new brand but I forget which. I thought it was vintage when I first found it, I also thought it went with the ruffles in the front! But no, instead it's a sexy back detail making it even better!
I'm pretty pumped today, do you know why? Well, yesterday my boyfriend made a trip to and from long island to bring out some of his guitar stuff, and also brought our bikes out here!! They had been sitting in a shed back on LI and I was trying to figure out a way to get them out here.. and now I have my pretty bike again! It's a yellow vintage Huffy from somewhere between 1976 and 1980 (my friend Bob came over last night and helped me change a tube, also helped me research the unique kind of gear box on it which was only made for a short time therefor narrowing down when I believe my bike to have been made. Thanks Bob!) I got it at a thrift store on LI like 4 years ago for $30! It also has a wicker basket! And I plan to ride that baby to work today!! Yay for bikes and for saving money on subways!
